Purpose of Job :
Contribute to the risk management of Small Business Portfolio Insights & Customer Management across Canada and ensure the portfolio is within established risk appetite.
Leads the design, development and implementation of proactive portfolio and customer credit strategies, including the ongoing requirements of the new end-to-end Small Business solution (work flow solution).
Key Job Accountabilities :
Lead data analysis, leveraging predictive and prescriptive insights by :
Overseeing the investigation, quantification, segmentation and other optimization analysis of origination and life cycle management trends
Identifying opportunities to optimize approval and booking rates, initial and current limits, delinquency, PCL and RAR.
Researching, identifying and utilizing new statistically-based methods for assessing and optimizing risk strategies
Providing strategic directions and guidance to Strategy & Analytics Labs and Credit Automation Labs
Ensure the completion of advanced analytics (trend and operational) for across the credit life cycle (origination, portfolio management and collections) and provide insight to assess the impact of champion / challenger strategies and support new challenger tests design to enhance RAR.
Provide recommendation on credit strategies that optimize key metrics (new application approval rate, pre-approved leads, credit limit, delinquency, PCL, RAR) leveraging robust insights and analytic which contribute to achieving the Bank’s objectives and meeting customers’ needs.
Ensure the design, development and implementation of risk management strategy across the credit life cycle and Small Business lending products are effective with focus on end-to-end credit adjudication work flow solution.
Assessing credit risk proposals and providing Senior Management with sound recommendations for changes to core policies, and credit strategies through sounds and robust portfolio insights.
This includes assessment of new program / product, new pilots or pilot extension or program renewals, etc.
Provide advice and counsel to business partners / local risk on credit risk initiatives related to portfolio management and liaise with key stakeholders, including Risk Technology Team
The Senior Manager role requires strong knowledge of credit risk strategies, expert in databases, query structures and data extraction to produce portfolio insights, knowledge of adaptive control applications for strategy implementation and advanced Excel.
Complexity of Position :
In-depth understanding of : i) Small Business products and channels, and the markets in which Scotiabank operates; ii) predictive modeling theory combined with practical application in defining and justifying credit risk strategies based on statistical models and executed via automated systems;
iii) collections policies / practices and strategies; and iv) legislative and marketplace issues relative to credit risk management.
Excellent analytical skills and the ability to design and interpret information / data required to monitor the performance and provide robust insights of the Small Business credit functions are essential.
Must be able to articulate their viewpoint / opinions to all levels within Scotiabank, as well as to senior executives.
The incumbent must be able to represent Scotiabank on risk management issues in a multitude of external venues (, government regulators, banking committees, external auditors, industry associations, credit bureaus and credit risk forums / roundtables, etc.).
Knowledge of credit risk management origination and / or life cycle techniques in Small Business and / or Retail credit.
Strong understanding of statistical theory and applications, including the design of champion / challenger tests utilizing credit risk scores and other risk drivers.
Strong experience with databases, query structures and advanced Excel skills.
Knowledge of adaptive control applications and credit processing systems for credit strategy implementation.
Strong financial skills, solid deductive reasoning, sound judgement and creativity.
Strong skills in strategic influencing and working collaboratively with cross functional business partners in Canada, as well as with external vendors.
Job Requirements :
Must have experience in databases, query structures and data extraction
Strong knowledge of credit risk policy and strategy for both secured and unsecured lending
Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written - presents and articulates views clearly.
Minimum 3 years of experience in Data Mining.
Must have experience using SAS, SQL, Pyhton and Tableau
Nice to Haves :
Predictive modelling knowledge and experience
Knowledge of credit processing and adaptive control credit systems (, Capstone, ACS, TRIAD, etc )
Strong financial skills, solid deductive reasoning, sound judgement and creativity
