Technical Director - Fleet Maintenance
We have an immediate opening for a full-time permanent position as Technical Director Fleet Maintenance based on Burlington head office.
Reporting to the Senior Director Technical Operations and Projects, you will be leading and managing a technical team comprises of Technical Managers, Electricians, Welders, Mechanics, etc.
You will also be directly partnered with Vessel Managers regarding technical matters and resource requirements.
Key Duties & Responsibilities :
Oversee technical team for performing any repair and maintenance which are outside of onboard capabilities.
Plan and Perform preventive maintenance preserving vessels commercial competence and originating long term corrective / preventive actions while ensuring compliance with the Quality and Safety Management Systems.
Aid in the development and supervision of vessel’s dry-docking and major machinery works, while ensuring such projects are completed in a way to minimize the impact to vessel operations.
Supervise contracts for all yard and non-yard, ship modifications, including negotiation of any changes to specifications, control of budgets, on-site inspections, and preparation of specifications to be used to solicit bids.
Represent the organization to customers, vendors and stakeholders while fostering a partnership approach.
Participate in the selection of engineering crew and sign-off on familiarization evaluation.
Assist with investigating accidents / incidents, eliminate identified deficiencies and ensure avoidance of recurrence.
Provide ongoing feedback and formally review engineering crew performance on an annual basis.
Provide the required suggestion and guideline to the Vessel Managers for any emergency repair, preventive maintenance, periodic maintenance, development of the Repair & Maintenance budget and assist with purchasing of technical products / machinery.
Provide technical support for business development by driving technical efficiency, procurement improvements and best practice.
Ensure that a best practice framework is in place for delivery of the services using processes, procedures, and systems developed by the company.
Involve with in training and development of vessel and shoreside crew to achieve desired output and motivation levels, making suggestions for improvements of shore based and ship based procedures.
Any other technical tasks assigned by the Senior Director Technical Operations and Projects.
Minimum Qualification, Skills and Competencies Required :
Minimum five (5) years’ shore-based experience in a managerial role together with a minimum five (5) years’ shipboard experience as a senior Engineering Officer.
Preference to a First-Class Certificate of Competency (Motor).
In depth Knowledge of Transport Canada, IMO, and Classification legislations.
Strong understanding and practical experience with Safety Management Systems and the International Safety Management (ISM) Code.
Ability to prioritize amongst many competing demands to ensure continuous vessel operation.
Ability to identify risks to the operation and take necessary steps to mitigate / minimize the risk.
A team player with strong leadership, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong computer skills and experience using MS Office and preventative maintenance systems
