Summary : The Event Lead Hand is responsible for leading the staff and volunteer team involved in the operations of our on snow athletic events.

This includes pre-event planning and site preparations, event execution and clean up plus post event reporting, all with the goal of exceeding our guest’s expectations.

Duties :

  • Continually strive to exceed our Guest’s expectations and to create memories for guests and staff as the best mountain experience again and again leading staff and volunteers to do the same.
  • Integral member of the team responsible for the development and implementation of training for staff and volunteer crew.
  • Attend and or Lead the weekly meetings to share information on upcoming events and details.
  • Initiate pre-event sessions with the Event Administration team and prepare event plan at least one week in advance of event.
  • Communicate clearly with other departments regard to upcoming event grooming, transportation, power etc needs.
  • Check both email and voice mail at the beginning and end of each work day, responding within 24 hours. Both email and voice mail should clearly indicate scheduled days off.
  • Responsible for maintaining cleanliness of all work spaces, whether this be office space, equipment storage areas or the general tidiness of an event venue.
  • Required to obtain training necessary in order to operate all event department timing equipment.
  • Expected to report damages to any equipment to the supervisor immediately and take appropriate measures in the meantime to correct the problem
  • Expected to work closely with the volunteer scheduler, reviewing required numbers or workers monthly and discussing any scheduling or performance issues on a regular basis.
  • Expected to lead and be an example for the staff and volunteer crew meeting them each morning and reviewing the day’s details and plans before heading up the mountain for either setup, execution or tear down of events.
  • A complete phone list of volunteers must accompany you on any work day in order to follow up on no show, no call immediately.

  • Maintain detailed records with regard to volunteer performance, attendance and recognition. When discipline is required, appropriate paperwork is to be completed in accordance with Whistler Blackcomb standards.
  • This is a critical part of the job and needs careful attention to detail and mature, corrective, immediate communication with the volunteer if a problem should arise.

    All corrective action, whether verbal or written, must be communicated immediately to the volunteer scheduler so that appropriate steps can be taken.

  • Execute mid season performance reviews and end of season exit interviews for volunteers. Also meet again with volunteer scheduler to discuss seasonal performance of volunteers and their rehirability status, assisting with communication to those who are not rehireable if required.
  • Continuous attention to detail involving event safety for guest and staff, including safety reviews at daily morning meetings.
  • Required to assume a variety of competition positions during events (i.e. chief of competition, chief of course, timer, finish referee, etc.) as required.
  • Coordinate the set up and execution of event awards presentations, acting as Master of Ceremonies as required.
  • Expected to be up to date with event information and act as Whistler Blackcomb Ambassador at all times on and off the job.
  • We are a company that works together and throughout the season you may be required to assist in other departments as needed.

    Qualifications :

  • Extensive on snow competition experience required (i.e. : freestyle, snowboard, alpine).
  • Leadership experience required.
  • Level II Ski Coach Certification or equivalent Freestyle certification an asset.
  • Competition officials or judging certifications an asset.
  • Public speaking experience mandatory.
  • Computer experience an asset an aptitude for numbers preferred.
  • Will be required to be on alpine skis at work and must be able to ski competently carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be hard working team player capable of performing physical work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must have outgoing, friendly personality and show commitment to exceeding guest and staff expectations at all times.
