Your Opportunity

We are seeking an Operational Leader (OL) to assist the Business Centre Managing Leader (BCML) to lead and manage the business centre across New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia while attracting and retaining key leaders and staff in those regions.

The OL employs efficient resource management, manages operations, ensures the effective delivery of professional services, and drives financial performance.

Reporting to the BCML, you will be responsible for sustaining and growing the net revenue, gross margin, and operating income within the geotechnical and materials business lines in NB, PEI and NS.

The OL focuses on local and regional clients, while assisting business center sector leaders (BCSLs) and account managers (AMs) in the region.

  • Within BC1216, the OL role will be divided by geography into four (4) positions across Canada Central and Atlantic; Ontario, Quebec;
  • New Brunswick / Prince Edward Island / Nova Scotia; and Newfoundland and Labrador.

    Your Key Responsibilities

    Reporting to the Business Center Managing Leader (BCML), the Operational Leader’s (OL’s) roles and responsibilities include :

    General Responsibilities

    Lead the development of policies and procedures to improve operational performance and staff retention

    Be accountable for staff utilization, availability, and resourcing within their unit

    Work with Team and Technical Leads to address personnel or project issues as they arise

    Coach and mentor Team Leads to grow their leadership and management capabilities through weekly one on one meetings

    Work with other OLs within the region to address staffing issues on a per project basis, as required

    Network across Stantec to identify opportunities for team members to fulfill their career goals

    Lead the hiring process, including identifying potential candidates, reviewing resumes, and participating in the interview process for candidates in their operational unit

    Be accountable for the Year End Performance Review (in conjunction with technical and team leadership)

    Travel as necessary to ensure unity and engagement across their operating unit

    Business Responsibilities

    Work with BC Leadership for project execution to ensure overall fiscal and operational performance for the unit (e.g., WIP / AR / GM management)

    Work with BC Leadership to ensure client focus and revenue growth

    Contribute to technical project work as part of the team within your area of expertise (e.g., business development, client management, project / discipline management, senior review)

    Ensure smooth and seamless functioning with other operating units, in Eastern Canada and beyond

    Be accountable for the annual compensation review process for their operating unit

    Be accountable for development of annual operating budgets for their operating unit

    Health and Safety Responsibilities

    Promote a strong health and safety culture and active participation in the Health & Safety Program

    Drive health and safety performance and promoting compliance with regulatory requirements and the HSE management system

    Ensure TLs / PMs are meeting target KPIs set forth for the group

    Key Performance Indicators

    95% PM Framework compliance from internal practice audits

    Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) of

    Meet personal utilization target of 70%

    Conduct minimum of four client feedback surveys per year

    Able to attract and retain key staff

    Meeting the financial targets set for the region

    Your Capabilities and Credentials

    A track record of establishing and maintaining client relationships in the Atlantic area

    Strong ability to develop business and promote business relationships

    Strong ability to motivate staff and promote teamwork within and across offices

    Excellent organization, coordination, management and leadership skills

    Demonstrated technical leadership in Geotechnical Engineering

    Results oriented individual who excels in multi-disciplinary environment

    Strong project planning and delivery experience

    Excellent verbal and written communication

    Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant design software

    Must have valid driver's license and good driving record

    Education and Experience

    Minimum of a Bachelor degree in Civil / Geotechnical Engineering from a recognized university.

    Professional Engineer in good standing in the province of residence, or the ability to obtain the professional designation.

    Minimum of 10 years’ experience in geotechnical consulting.
