As a Labourer II, you will be reporting to the Crew Leader - Site Servicing NW, and be responsible for all year-round tasks related to Site Servicing within City Parks in the Northwest District.
Working for Parks and Roads Services - this position is accountable to the public and the organization to ensure the safety, cleanliness and aesthetic of parks within the Northwest district are maintained, and encourage the usage of these parks to the public.
Some key responsibilities are :
Perform custodial, sanitation, graffiti removal, and minor maintenance; of parks, playgrounds, natural areas, dogs off leash and spray park areas
Placement and transport of picnic tables, bleachers, benches for special events etc.
Maintenance of bookable picnic sites and stoves
Maintain and replace waste receptacles as required
Open, close, arm & disarm facilities
Caretake, maintain and repairs related to ornamental water features
Participates in safety inspections and emergency response procedures
Assist winter operations when necessary with snow removal using shovels, snowblowers, sweepers and sanders
Act as a fill-in Crew Leader or Refuse Collector when necessary
Act as a mentor to new and seasonal hires with the orientation of daily tasks when necessary
Other related duties as required
Completion of grade 10
1 year of related experience in parks and roads operations, this includes janitorial and sanitation services or waste management
Current Standard First Aid Level C
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently
Knowledge of safety precautions and hazards involved with parks maintenance and ability to adhere to city policies and safety directives
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform manual labour for extended periods of time under various weather conditions
Experience operating equipment such as utility vehicles, tractors, toolcats, packer trucks or other related equipment of similar size and complexity considered an asset
