Typically reporting to the Project Manager, the Utility Superintendent is responsible to manage and oversee all field construction among various trades on a project (10M 30M+) including planning, organizing, directing and controlling various aspects from start to finish according to schedule, specifications and budget.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to :
Manage and provide leadership for health, safety, environment, and quality programs and policies
Assist Project Manager or Department Manager in the planning of assigned projects
Executes plan and evaluates schedules and site personnel to ensure project objectives are met
Provides leadership to Forman(s) and prioritizes work accordingly
Oversees site safety and quality control personnel
Hire and supervise the activities of subcontractors and subordinate staff
Build and maintain customer and supplier / vendor relationships
Monitor job costing, reporting, forcasting, and productivity
Oversee field administration : timesheets, project reports, and material purchases
Review work / contracts / WIP for areas of risk and correct deficiencies
Read and interpret reports, such as job cost, labour, projection sheets, and PO entries

Trade Qualification and / or have a Technical Diploma or Engineering Degree background to complement 10-12 years field experience.
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
10-12 years of field experience in utilities construction
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Advanced supervisory and leadership Skills
Advanced site safety supervision
Ability to read drawings and project / structural design interpretation
Building materials and systems
Proven planning and scheduling skills
Dispute resolution and negotiation skills
Utility experience (streetlight & Traffic)
Road overhead sign experience
Ground disturbance, cable & conduit trenching, excavation & backfilling experience
Proficient user of :
MS Office (Word, Excel, Project)
Willing and able to travel within the Calgary Area.
Valid Alberta Driver's License
