Kiewit is currently looking for two Surveying Assistants to work hand-in-hand with our field surveyors, CAD technicians and survey managers on the LRT project in Ottawa.
We are looking for motivated candidates interested in a long term career in the construction indsutry. Resposibilities include but are not limited to :
Examine / inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracis, and cost saving measures that arise or that may be encountered.
Take corrective actions as needed.
Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
Understand and respond approprately to all safety hazards and warning devices (i.e back-up alarms, smell of smoke, warning sirens)
Assist in planning, diagramming and lay-out for surveyor work
Read and understand plans and project specifications. Visualize two dimnesional drawings in three dimensions
With regard to that portion of the work assigned, develop sufficient understanding of various labor assignments to be able to work for several hours without supervision.
Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate.
Using logic and reasoning to identify the strenghts and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
Learn to observe funstioning of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement.
Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds or more
Move in around and under confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas
Work up to a 12 hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions
Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds
Use appropriate hand and power tools to perform a variety of functions, including but not limites to, digging, spreading and levelling dirt and gravel, using pick,shover and wheelbarrow, lift and carry building materials, tools and supplies.
