Manager, Internal Audit (Operational Audit)

Our clients’ focus is on business risks e.g. technology, operations, commercial, legal, people, and strategic risks. The successful candidate will need a good understanding of these and be able to apply them to your audit reviews in the context of the company's risk appetite.

About the Opportunity

  • Responsible for delivering a portfolio of risk-based, operational, regulatory and compliance audits
  • Expected to contribute to the annual audit plan with considered input based on Business Unit and company knowledge
  • Effectively manage all aspects of audit planning, execution and reporting
  • Maintain appropriate levels of communication with line management and Internal Audit management throughout audit execution
  • In conjunction with management, perform effective risk assessments to ensure audits focus on the most relevant business risks
  • Test design and operating effectiveness of controls and perform audit activities independently in an effective, timely and quality manner
  • Document results of audit testing and produce quality working papers
  • Produce concise and impactful audit reports to communicate results of the audit work and drawing conclusions on control effectiveness and impacts to the company’s control environment
  • Complete audits in accordance with the company’s global internal audit process and protocols while applying International Standards for Professional Practice of Internal Auditing
  • Ensure that issues identified are fully understood by the auditee and appropriate action plans are defined as a result
  • Perform special and ad-hoc projects, including internal audit process related projects and initiatives
  • Lead or be a consulting party in most of the audits
  • Assist in training new auditors
  • About You

  • Financial services industry audit experience is highly desired
  • Experience auditing processes and controls of Federally Regulated Financial Institutions (FRFI) either as part of an Internal Audit group or Risk and Assurance Practice of a Big 4 accounting firm(s) is a major asset
  • Detailed knowledge of regulations applicable to FRFIs including but not limited to various OSFI guidelines, Loan and Trust Companies Act, Anti-
  • money Laundering regulations and others is a major asset

  • Minimum 5-8 years of experience in planning and executing operational, risk-based and compliance audit engagements is required
  • Knowledge and proficiency in risk management principles and processes is required
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfort around higher authority and ability to effectively communicate with and present to senior executives
  • Ability to analyze and understand complex business processes and IT systems efficiently while focusing on the highest operational risks
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Ability to manage multiple activities and priorities.
  • Ability to effectively deal with ambiguity
  • Presentation skills are important for this role due to its visibility and exposure to senior management
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university
  • A professional audit, accounting or business qualification (CIA, CISA, CPA, CA, CMA, CGA, MBA) or a combination thereof
  • A minimum 5-8 years of experience in audit role within a commercial organization
  • Knowledge of risk management principles and processes, operational effectiveness techniques, profitability influences, market place trends &
  • $100,000-$110,000 / year
