We are currently seeing a Quality Control and Assurance Technician for our Brampton, ON facility.
In this role, technician is responsible for the characterization, research and possible packing of waste. Position must characterize waste from customer sites through the use of Material Safety Data Sheets and further research with available tools and materials.
Also will be tasked to maintain databases, HWIN responsibilities and WMS / EMS programs.
Provide chemical expertise / consult regarding chemical characterization, handling, transport, and disposal.
Team lead for on-site projects requiring chemical characterization, handling, transport and disposal.
Obtain samples from ingoing and outgoing wastes / chemicals for testing, conforming and characterization.
Log lab samples as necessary as well as results.
Maintain and report non-conforming chemical / waste streams, provides them to Health & Safety department for the Ministry of Environment (MOE) and Health Canada.
Characterizing waste as dictated by Environmental Protection Act (EPA), the Department of Transportation (DOT) and / or other provincial regulations.
Client HWIN registration and maintenance.
Ensures cost effective and compliant means of waste / chemical disposal.
Assist with the non-conforming process, choosing correct final disposal site (FDS) after waste has been non-conformed, along with non-
conforming approvals in WMS.
Implement new testing and compliance protocols as needed by the company.
Completion and maintenance of Stericycle’s Material Characterization Form (MCF).
Providing pricing for quotes, and FDS choice when required.
Profile creation and maintenance in Warehouse Management System (WMS) when needed.
Service activation and maintenance in WMS when needed.
Assist with Strongpak / Labpack duties when needed.
Education and Experience Required (including certifications and / or software requirements for the position) :
University or College degree in applicable field Chemistry, environmental, biology (with some chemistry).
Two to three years of familiarity and practiced comprehension of applicable regulatory, governmental, and any other environmental legislation and practices.
Two to three years of familiarity and practiced comprehension of Transportation of Dangerous Goods.
Two to three years of experience in chemical and other material research and database maintenance through use of Computer programs, Internet and other resources, required.
Familiarity and ability to understand and interpret Material Safety Data Sheets.
Two to three years of experience in environmental classification, packing, other environmental positions.
Valid drivers’ license.
Comprehension of HWIN, WMS / EMS programs.
Lab Packing experience preferred.
