Registered Dietitian (Part-Time) Extendicare Michener Hill

Candidates are invited for the Part-Time (0.8 FTE) position of Registered Dietitian for Extendicare’s Michener Hill facility in Red Deer, Alberta.
This facility is home to 220 Continuing Care residents and 60 Designated Assisted Living clients. The Dietitian provides Dietitian services for residents within legislative and budgetary parameters.
As a member of the Clinical Home Support Team, the Dietitian consults with and advises the Director of Care and ADOC’s concerning program needs and plans for Dietitian services.
The Dietician is responsible for providing nutritional assessment, nutritional planning, implementation and follow-up for residents.
Completes a nutritional assessment for each resident using MDS 2.0 assessments as required, determining an individualized resident’s diet to meet his or her needs by involving the resident, family members and care team
Evaluates nutritional adequacy of dietary intake by calculating and analysing Food Intake Studies, as necessary for residents identified to be High Nutritional Priority
Identifies intervention and initiates action to maintain as well as restore the nutritional health of the residents
Educates resident, family members, and team members regarding diet recommendations
Acts as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team, acts as a representative for Extendicare, through participation in regional and professional activities as appropriate
Participates on committees related to resident care, facility operation and Quality indicators as required
Registered Dietitian, eligible for membership with the College of Dietitians of Alberta
Extensive knowledge of geriatric nutrition
3-5 years experience in long-term care setting preferred
Proficiency with computer applications Microsoft Office and internet. Experience with MDS 2.0 desirable, familiarity with software PointClickCare an asset
Excellent organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills
Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety practices, principles and legislation.
Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential
Customer-focused attitude, with demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective team relationships with staff and residents
