You will be a part of a Facility Infrastructure Delivery team that completes design and construction delivery on Fire Stations, Recreation facilities, Transit Garages, Transit facilities, Emergency Operations Centres, City of Edmonton Attractions, Police Facilities, Libraries, River Valley facility projects, Demolition Programs, Energy Retrofits (Solar & CHP) Site Remediation, Building Envelope upgrades, major and minor facility Rehabilitations and fiber optic installations.

Reporting to a Program Manager in Facility Infrastructure Delivery, these positions support the City’s Strategic Plan on how Integrated Infrastructure Services delivers Facility Infrastructure.

With a strong focus on client Satisfaction, the Project Coordinator supports a Program Manager and a team of Project Managers within a specified delivery portfolio.

In this role you will assist in the delivery of facility projects by ensuring project management principles are incorporated into business practices, project plans are developed, executed and monitored.

You will also play a key role in supporting the integration of effective project management practices into all branch activities and initiatives.

Your duties will include :

  • Support the Project Manager and team in the public engagement process and implementation
  • Assist with and / or prepare project documentation per the Project Management methodology, policies and processes and other requirements
  • Support and provide / input information into Project Management Information System (PMIS)
  • Develop, evaluate and recommend options for effective and cost beneficial solutions
  • Attend site meetings and perform support / administrative activities
  • Lead and / or support the development and administration of contracts
  • Review size and complexity of the project as to architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical, civil system
  • Review type and complexity of design and construction techniques, material required, collect and analyze existing data for further design review
  • Review pre-bid construction estimates and make recommendations to the Project Manager
  • Prepare and execute consulting agreements / construction contracts
  • Review / revise contracts as appropriate In collaboration with the appropriate team members, issue contemplated changes, site instructions and change orders, and track change management
  • Perform site inspections of the work for conformance with drawings, specifications and codes
  • Assess value of work completed, and process progress claims
  • Track and monitor costs Inspect for substantial performance and construction completion, ensure completion of work
  • Monitor, and report on any variances to the Program Manager / Project Manager
  • Provide recommendations on mitigation strategies for any contractual variances as it applies to scope, schedule and budget and implement as directed
  • Record and maintain a detailed record of vendor performance
  • Lead control order / small construction projects through to completion
  • Escalate contract management issues where required
  • Review as-built drawings and operating & maintenance manuals, coordinate approval prior to acceptance
  • Monitor corrective action on warranty items
  • Prepare budget estimates and review preliminary drawings
  • Qualifications

  • Completion of a degree in a related field such as Engineering, Architecture, or Project Management and a minimum of two (2) years directly related experience in project management for infrastructure design and construction of facilities / buildings - OR -
  • A Diploma in a related field such as Engineering, Construction, Architecture or Project Management and a minimum of four (4) years directly related experience in project management for infrastructure design and construction of facilities / buildings
  • Experience coordinating or managing facility / building projects is required
  • Experience supporting public engagement processes
  • Experience working with external consultants and contractors
  • Demonstrated ability to manage between 1 to 5 projects and up to $25 million in capital delivery budget
  • Demonstrated experience working with multi-disciplinary teams in the delivery of facility projects
  • Solid understanding of design and construction processes related to architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical, disciplines
  • Strong project coordination skills including an understanding of project management methods and techniques (PMBOK best practices)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to visit project sites without impediment
  • Working knowledge of relevant codes, legislation, regulations, policies and procedures (OH&S, Environmental, Builders Lien Act, etc.)
  • Knowledge and background in computers and computer applications in project management / construction environment
  • Strong ability to create accurate and complete site reports and other written documentation and a working knowledge of completing a job hazard analysis
  • Knowledge and experience in project management of LEED certified buildings would be an asset
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent). Must obtain business auto insurance for personal vehicle use on City business
  • Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
