    Job Description

    The incumbent of the role of Health, Security, Safety and Environment (HSSE) ensures the implementation of the management systems for the health and safety of workers, the safety of the site and the protection of the public and the environment at the level of biofuel production facilities, in accordance with corporate directives and applicable requirements,

    The successful candidate will also play a key role in employee engagement in maintaining a safe work environment. The HSSE Manager will be expected to encourage all employees to actively participate in hazard identification, risk control and the implementation of HSSE policies and procedures.

    This person will also have to assess and address HSSE training needs.

  • Work closely with the general contractor during site development and construction to ensure HSSE alignment between contractor(s) and the asset owner.
  • Develop, implement and maintain the HSSE management system at the site level, including the following critical programs : lockout, working at heights, confined space, chemicals management, mobile equipment, etc.
  • Develop and implement the site-level emergency plan and act as an emergency contact for the site.
  • Implement and manage the discharge monitoring program (atmospheric, effluent, residual materials) to ensure compliance with the conditions of operating permits and current legislation.
  • Set up and manage the HSSE committee of the plant.
  • Define HSSE training needs for all site employees, implement and monitor the training program in accordance with legal requirements and corporate policies and procedures of HSSE.
  • Account for key performance indicators at the site level, define and implement corrective plans as required.
  • Ensure that all incidents and accidents are investigated and that corrective measures are put in place to prevent their recurrence.
  • Assist the human resources department in the management of accident files and the employee return-to-work program.
  • Effectively manage the HSSE budget and work in collaboration with various consultants and suppliers.
  • Prepare annual reports to relevant government agencies (CNESST, MELCC, Environment Canada)
  • Act as a site representative on local emergency planning committees (ex. : CMMI, AMV)
  • Qualifications

  • Academic and professional training in occupational and environmental health, safety, industrial relations, engineering or chemistry, or any other appropriate training.
  • A minimum of ten years of experience in a comparable role,ideally acquired in companies of national scope opening in the chemical sector.
  • Working knowledge of the implementation of HSSE management systems in industrial settings.
  • Excellent spoken and written command of the main language used on the site and functional ability in English (spoken and written).
