Position Overview

Reporting to Aecon’s Senior Controller, the SPV Accountant is primarily responsible for managing all of the accounting & reporting functions of Special Purpose Entities ( SPV ) setup within Aecon’s design build finance projects and to be the interface between the Construction Entity ( DBJV ) and the representatives of the client & project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Setup & manage all the financial accounting, monthly reporting, treasury & cash management functions for SPVs
  • Coordinate, prepare and submit monthly draw requests & monthly reports to Lender Technical Advisor (LTA) and Admin Agent in line with project agreements
  • Track and Update the projects financial model
  • Interface and manage communications between the DBJV, Project Lenders, LTA & other stakeholders

    Prepare accounting papers to document interest hedges and all the necessary IFRS memos

    Perform quarterly interest hedge effectiveness tests

    Forecast & manage cash flow to ensure draw downs are in line with the financial model and do not exceed maximum amounts stipulated in the model

    Process payments for SPV costs

    Prepare quarterly forecasts & business plans as required by the Partners

    Prepare / File monthly HST returns & manage HST audits

  • Prepare monthly financial statements in accordance with IFRS
  • Coordinate and manage yearend financial statement audits
  • Coordinate & manage other SPV deliverables required under the project agreements
  • Coordination with tax advisors as needed
  • Manage variation orders with LTA & other stakeholders
  • Required Knowledge & Skills

  • Accounting designation CPA or equivalent
  • Minimum five years of post-qualification experience in accounting
  • DBF Project accounting experience is preferable
  • Ability to deal effectively with project staff, Joint Venture partners, banking institutions, etc.
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, Accounting Systems)
  • Hands on experience in the use of SAP is an asset
  • Team player, self-motivated and ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and under tight deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Highly organized with demonstrated ability to plan and execute multiple priorities with tight deadlines and meticulous attention to detail
