DEPARTMENT : Telecommunications
POSITION SUMMARY : Operates an attendant console to handle and dispose calls within the Hospital’s communication network.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Answers and transfers incoming calls for the hospital with courtesy, speed and accuracy.
Provides assistance to the Hospital clientele and users ensuring that each caller’s request and needs are answered and that a solution to the caller’s problem is found.
Provides patient information.
Logs and completes long distance calls.
Locates hospital staff.
Closes and opens patient telephone extensions per request of the patient, nurse or family member and per the Patient Accounts Department.
Records and relays messages as required.
Applies established procedures appropriate to the handling and disposal of emergency calls.
Recognizes unusual circumstances and tries to evaluate the problem and find a solution. Refers to the immediate Assistant Chief of the Telecommunications Department if assistance is needed to solve the problem.
Logs and / or refers reports of the hospital telephones or equipment in need of repair. Judges the urgency of the request based on the list of critical telephone extensions and acts according to established procedure.
Participates in the clerical activities required for the good functioning of the Department. Participates in an efficient management of information within the Department as well as within the hospital to ensure the efficiency of communication in the institution for the best of the patients.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
High School Diploma;
Experience in a call center environment, an asset;
Good people interaction skills;
Bilingual : English and French.
