Working Friday to Tuesday and reporting to the Manager, Custodial Services, the Operations Supervisor is responsible for the effective supervision of Custodial and Grounds part-time and full-time staff, maintenance of the University interior / exterior spaces including daily cleaning services, project floor re-finishing, carpet maintenance, window washing, interior / exterior waste & recycling, space / furniture reconfigurations, lamp replacements, Grounds maintenance and related functions, identifying and reporting building deficiencies and hazards, general immediate support to the York Community.
Responsible for issuing and recovering of building and equipment keys and ensuring proper lock up of keys. Monitors established and implemented operating procedures and policies.
Ensures efficient and cost effective Custodial and Grounds services are provided to the University. This position is also responsible for the active field supervision of unionized staff including external contractors as required.
Completion of a Community College diploma in related field or equivalent. Or Building Operations Certificate. Class 'G' driver's license DZ driver's license is an asset.
Minimum 3 years recent directly related experience along with 2-years of Supervisory experience in a unionized environment is required.
Demonstrated computer skills in the following : Basic MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Access. E-mail. Database systems such as Maximo.
Precis (Cleantelligent) Quality Assurance Software. Demonstrated skills and ability in the following : Basic accounting skills.
Excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills are required. A thorough knowledge of all cleaning systems and equipment.
Knowledge of quality assurance programs. Knowledge in interior / exterior waste / recycling management. Knowledge in grounds maintenance functions including safe operation of large equipment.
Knowledge of key systems and securing devices. Knowledge of the Ontario Health & Safety Act including thorough knowledge in WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) regulations.
Familiarity with reporting work related accidents and safe return to work practices for occupational and non-occupational cases.
Demonstrated ability to apply Collective Agreements. Good working knowledge of building mechanical systems is an asset.

Job is executed in a general office environment during the weekdays (60%) and both interior and exterior of buildings on the weekends (40%).
There will be exposure to inclement weather, noise, various pollutants, dust, toxins and / or chemicals in the execution of duties.
Physical demands include the requirement to walk, bend, and climb when completing work tours / inspections, as well as the ability to sit for prolonged periods.
Normal work week is Friday to Tuesday.
