Our client, a rapidly growing Cannabis company located downtown Vancouver has the potential to become one of the largest licensed producers of medical and recreational cannabis in the world.

This company has a diverse, passionate team of doctors, scientists, researchers, growers, educators, and advocates who came together with the goal of increasing access to safe, high quality cannabis for medical patients and recreational consumers with a few facilities across the lower mainland and a beautiful office located downtown Vancouver.

They are an entrepreneurial, fast paced company that have a fantastic collaborative and fun culture.This company has recently gone from private to public, was at 200 employees at the beginning of 2019 and plans to be at 2500 by the end of the year!

What- the Role :

Great opportunity to build and make an impact and be hands on as a Benefits Specialist!As Benefits Specialist, you will be responsible for handling the day-

to-day administration of the group benefits programs such extended medical, dental, vision, short term and long-term disability, life insurance and accident plan, and other company benefit programs.

In addition, this role is responsible for the management of all company leaves, return to work programs, WCB claims and other disability claims.

The Benefits Specialist also provides support to the employees participating in benefit programs, investigates new and improves existing programs, handles benefits administration, and provides analytical and technical support regarding the Company’s benefits programs.

In addition, the Benefits Specialist may provide administration support to the People team with their projects. Duties and Responsibilities include :

  • Coordinates and manages the daily benefit processing and leave of absence activities
  • Handles enrollments, life events, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability, accident and death claims
  • Manages and owns the leave of absence, disability and absence management programs
  • Works with employees on workplace accommodations and return to work programs; works with managers to ensure return to work programs are understood, supported and executed
  • Partners with the HRBP and People leadership team on any complex employee cases and escalations
  • Creates communications and distributes materials for the benefit programs and events as well as summary plan descriptions for internal use
  • Assists in the management of the benefits plan renewal process
  • Analyzes the current benefits, evaluate the use, services, coverage, effectiveness, cost, plan experience, and competitive trends in benefit programs
  • Manages and tracks all benefit related invoices and reconciliations
  • Serves as the primary contact and is accountable for any benefits-related compliance questions and / or audits, both internal and external
  • Serves as the primary contact for plan vendors and third-party administrators
  • Provides administrative support for the People team with their projects when needed
  • Who- the Candidate :

    This position is looking for someone that is adaptable, motivated and accustomed to working in a fast-paced environment dealing with ambiguity.

    With Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical skills this compensation analyst with get broad exposure in building out programs in partnership with HR and the leadership teams.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent related experience
  • 3-5 years of related Benefits and / or HR experience
  • Strong skills and knowledge in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and the ability to learn additional programs as needed
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail; a thorough knowledge of plan design with the ability to understand and evaluate proposals (RFPs)
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of compensation processes and practices
  • Ability to consult with HR colleagues, Sr. Executives and Business Unit Leaders / Managers
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, deliver effective results while meeting tight deadlines / targets
  • Ability to work autonomously and be a self-starter
  • Proactive and collaborative team player with a deep understanding of customer service
  • Experience handling confidential business matters and information with discretion
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • CEBS designation preferred
