What you can expect in a typical day

The Communications Specialist is responsible for activating the Irving Oil brand through creative communication deliverables based on submitted creative briefs.

In this role, the Communications Specialist will act as a project lead for internal and external campaigns, collaborating with their team and stakeholders to develop strategic and creative campaigns that achieve the business objectives set by internal clients.

This role will require working outside of regular business hours from time to time in order to meet clients’ needs.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Work within and be familiar with the agency-client model.
  • Meet with clients and key stakeholders to discuss and identify their communications requirements; analyze requirements to make sound recommendations.
  • Validate and communicate the details of campaigns, audience segmentation, and client objectives to the Creative Services team.
  • Work with the Creative Services team to develop ideas, strategies, creative and comprehensive media plans which meet / exceed the client’s expectations.
  • Identify, cultivate, and propose new communication tactics and opportunities to clients.
  • Excel in creative writing for content including, but not limited to, POS messaging, social and web content.
  • Work with the Media Planner to develop and activate traditional and digital media plans.
  • Consult the Consumer Insights Manager to refine concept and messaging to align with identified audience segmentation.
  • Present and prepare campaign concepts, strategies, and tangible assets to the client which meet brand standards and campaign objectives.
  • Act as the point of contact between the client and the Creative Services team by maintaining regular contact with both.
  • Set and manage timelines and workback schedules for all creative deliverables to meet key milestones within a campaign;
  • Maintain a flexible approach in client relationships and campaigns to ensure needs are met as they arise.

  • Travel

  • Minimal travel is required for this position.
  • Education and experience

  • Post-secondary education in Business, Communications, or English.
  • Minimum 3 years of communications and writing experience.
  • Excel at creative writing; please include samples with your application.
  • Strong knowledge of communication trends and strategy.
  • Understanding of social and digital trends.
  • Excellent computer skills i.e. MS Office; Mac environment an asset.
  • Experience working in account services with an advertising / marketing agency an asset.
