Reporting to the VP Health & Nutrition, the Victoria Facility Manager will be responsible for leading the operations and management of the facility and will be a key link with clients.
We’re looking for a pragmatic team player, who can provide robust engineering oversight for the facility and manage important internal and external stakeholder relationships.
So what’s the role?
Supervises Facility Staff, Aquaculture Technologists and schedules staff activities / rota
Ensures 24 / 7 monitoring and maintenance of the facility in compliance with regulatory requirements and standard operating procedures to ensure fish health and welfare and business continuity (inc life support systems)
Applies expertise to laboratory set-up and purchasing. Ensure that the space is allocated according to the contract research schedule (working closely with the study directors) and that the aquaculture systems are performing to specifications throughout a study.
Maintains a high standard of animal husbandry including regular animal welfare checks and the maintenance of in house-stocks
Support role for CFIA, other regulatory agencies and corporate inspection visits related to the facility
Work with the QA manager to ensure that all SOPs and related documentation pertaining to CATC accreditations, such as GLP and AQC-2 / 3 are achieved and maintained
Works with animal health professionals to ensure highest standards of animal welfare are maintained
If necessary, and with the agreement of the principal investigator / scientist, assists in procedures for which adequate training has been provided and documented
Foster strong working relationships between the facilities / maintenance teams and the study teams
Responsible for budgeting, design, engineering, logistics and commissioning of any new systems / facilities at the Victoria site
May be designated as trainer’ with the responsibility for instructing new personnel to use and follow SOPs and for the completion of employee training records
Other duties deemed appropriate by the VP Health & Nutrition
What we’re looking for :
Qualified to a degree level in an Aquaculture subject or equivalent and / or ability to demonstrate experience in a similar managerial role
Previous experience in managing a large-scale RAS facility will be an advantage
Ability to supervise and coach staff, develop safety protocols and a proactive approach to ensure a safe working environment
Good leadership skills and the ability to motivate and develop a strong team is essential
Demonstrable leadership and management experience
Experience in fish husbandry and maintaining life support systems is essential
Ideally will have worked in GxP environments
Strong practical engineering approach and systems knowledge
An ability to effectively interact with colleagues throughout the organization
Ability to demonstrate attention to detail and an proactive approach to problem solving.
Organizational and planning skills is essential
Willingness to work flexibly to meet the demands of the job
Driving license essential
Reliable, detail-oriented, organized, hard-working, self-motivated and accountable
Strong project management experience desirable
