Responsibilities

EVRAZ NA is seeking a Continuous Improvement Leader for our Calgary facility. This role will work in conjunction with production, planning, maintenance and engineering departments to refine operating and maintenance methodology in an effort to increase production and decrease costs.

The successful candidate will support engineering to forecast efficiency impacts such as : improvement to productivity, yield, labor and cost when changes to existing lines and new lines are being designed.

A key activity is to develop production key performance indicators taking into account product mix and projects. This role reports to the Director of Operations.

  • Manages continuous improvement team of one or more analysts
  • Manages multidisciplinary continuous improvement project teams including : production, maintenance and engineering
  • Analysis of material flows, determining potential improvements to reduce pipe handling
  • Analysis of best plant load balance, determines best crew levels per line depending on tons to be produced
  • Analysis of headcount per line, determines operators availability based on work load
  • Evaluation of cycle times, determines cycle activities subject to improvement, conducts bench marks with similar lines to determine actions to improve cycle times
  • Analysis of change overs, utilizes single minute exchange of dyes (SMED) type methodology to improve change over times
  • Analysis of material yield losses, determines technological losses vs. scrap losses, recommend potential technological and control improvements to reduce yield losses
  • Analysis of conversion cost, break down between price and consumption, assist in determining actions to reduce consumption or alternatives to overall improve cost per ton
  • Determines production capacity of existing and future lines
  • Supports basic engineering designs of new lines or modifications to existing lines to have optimal performance
  • Supports engineering team to calculate investment benefits (IRR, NPV, etc.)
  • Utilize lean tools to support continues improvement of plant performance
  • Job Requirements

  • Industrial or Manufacturing Engineer, Engineering Technologist, other engineering disciplines will be considered, experience in industrial / manufacturing engineering is required
  • 15 years’ industry experience combined with minimum of 5 years’ pipe industry experience, candidates with less experience may be considered for an Analyst or Specialist role
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, leading teams at a manager level
  • Knowledge of simulation software (i.e. Arena or Promodel)
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to multi-task while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Lean tools training and experience
  • Must have excellent skills in MS Office Excel and Word
  • Experience with computer-aided design programs like AutoCAD
