The Oakville Director of Operations will report directly to the Sr. Director of Operations for Landing Gear. The Director will be responsible for all manufacturing operations at the Oakville site part of Landing Systems $2 billion business.

Specifically, the Director will lead a non-union team of more than 700 in Operations, Technical, EH&S, Materials and Quality.

The Director will also serve as a core member of the Oakville leadership team. In aggregate, the site has about 1,200 employees including design engineering, manufacturing, aftermarket, finance, human resources, and other critical functions.

This is a heavy manufacturing facility that machines large forgings to tight tolerances, subjects the parts to a variety of chemical processes, and then assembles and ships the finished products.

Historically, Oakville has been a high performing site with a stable product mix primarily comprised of landing gear of large commercial, military and regional aircraft.

Primary Responsibilities :

Working with a talented cross functional team key responsibilities include :

  • Creating and executing site annual operating and capital budgets and monthly forecasts; leading the team in achieving these targets and proactively adjusting according to volume and market requirements
  • Developing and implementing an overall production and manufacturing strategy, including infrastructure (i.e., systems, processes, personnel), designed to accommodate the business strategy while maximizing results
  • Accelerating the adoption of ACE (Achieving Competitive Excellence), UTC’s operating system for driving Continuous Improvement, by applying Lean manufacturing principles
  • Maintaining a safe, sustainable, and environmentally responsible workplace by addressing all physical, systemic, and behavioral issues while ensuring compliance with all governmental and UTC policies
  • Coordinating activities among departments and promoting a collaborative environment to ensure that the best business decisions are fostered to meet or exceed customer expectations
  • Ensuring that appropriate skill levels and career development objectives are achieved; building a strong bench
  • Determining manpower requirements and ensuring that all manpower resources are efficiently and effectively utilized
  • Achieving target metrics for safety, delivery, cost, product / process quality, productivity, and process improvement
  • Promoting the control of manufacturing processes according to approved methods, quality, and cost standards
  • Making critical decisions, both independently and in conjunction with others, regarding : overtime expense, make / buy decisions, capital purchase prioritization, equipment upgrades and contract proposals
  • Driving to create a high performance culture with emphasis on highest ethical standards, customer focus and mutual trust and respect.
  • Basic Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree and 12 years of relevant experience OR
  • Advance degree and 10 years of relevant experience OR
  • In absence of a degree, 16 years of relevant experience is required
  • At least 10 years of progressive operations leadership experience within a global manufacturing enterprise
  • Demonstrated ability to provide site leadership in a fast-paced, multi-site, matrix environment to ensure expectations are met relative to delivery, quality, cost, and inventory targets
  • Clear ability to develop and ensure adherence to departmental budgets
  • Strong ability to support development of new program launch budgets and delivery milestones
  • A leader who motivates and empowers the team with an affinity for continuous improvement
  • Experience fostering an environment where diversity and inclusion are developed and leveraged to create value for the business
  • Demonstrated record driving continuous performance improvement in a lower volume, higher mix, discrete manufacturing environment
  • Proven ability to be an effective member of a senior leadership team; accustomed to supporting both personal and division objectives
  • Superior strategic planning / thinking skills coupled with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; demonstrated intellectual and analytical rigor
  • Results driven, works well under pressure and meets deadlines in a high performance manufacturing environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills, communicates effectively with multiple levels, both internally and externally
