Hours : Monday to Friday Days and Evenings - Mainly days, however some evenings may be required for education, patient programs, etc.

This is what you’ll be doing :

The Child Life Specialist contributes to excellence in paediatric focused care through program development, education and support of staff, physicians, and volunteers as well as patient / family and group clinical support as required.

The position is multi-site, providing support to multiple programs.

  • Develops, initiates and provides a range of developmentally appropriate services to promote coping, optimum development and normal life experiences during hospitalization and illness
  • Develops programs and resources aimed at preparing children and families for medical interventions. Provides education to staff, physicians and volunteers regarding program and resources.
  • Plans, implements and evaluates continuum of care in collaboration with inter-disciplinary team for patients / families with unique needs.
  • Develops / implements tools to measure and evaluate program services being offered.
  • Develops and maintains policies and procedures for the Child Life program, and reviews and adjusts as needed.
  • Collects statistics as required related to services offered and to identify needs of programs.
  • Provides education and support regarding implementing and sustaining child friendly and supportive environments and programs to staff, physicians, and volunteers in all areas providing paediatric care.
  • Participates and contributes in committees that impact child health related practice
  • Works with the Foundation and other organizations to secure grants, coordinate donations and partner with the community

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development, Child and Family Studies, Psychology or related field
  • Current Child Life Specialist Certification- Association of Child Life Professionals
  • Knowledge of infant, child & adolescent growth & development
  • Proven ability to work in a multidisciplinary setting
  • Excellent professional communication with patients and families as well as inter-disciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with competing priorities
  • Possess effective conflict resolution skills
  • Experience working in a multi-site, multi-program setting is an asset
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a health care setting is an asset
  • Satisfactory employment and attendance record required
