The Team

Scotiabank’s Data Loss Monitoring (DLM) team is responsible for the protection of the company’s data globally through the Cyber Security Operation (CSOC).

The Role

The Team Lead will be an integral part of the Data Loss Monitoring (DLM) team, responding to data-loss events generated by the Security Information & Event Monitoring (SIEM) platform.

As a subject matter expert, the individual will conduct investigations into data loss events, identifying threats and mal-intent towards the organization by means of intrusion detection while also producing reports, root cause analysis (where applicable), and policy tuning recommendations from the findings.

As a technical leader, the business will rely heavily on your technical expertise to make product, policy or procedure changes to enhance the company’s security.

  • You will be expected to provide network security monitoring of Scotiabank’s internet resources, ensuring the appropriateness of resource settings, configuration and usage as well as protection from any network data leakage.
  • You will be monitoring, triaging, investigating and remediating / mitigating cases of data loss incidents
  • You are passionate in facilitating the company’s global security monitoring and incident response programs.
  • You will share your subject matter expertise to the management team on emerging threats.
  • You will be analysing threat telemetry from network logging devices, providing remediating and recommending actions where required.
  • You know how to provide in-depth incident analysis and findings for policy management.
  • You will take part in initiatives as directed to contribute to the strategic direction for security related technologies or other controls that need to be put in place to reduce the threat levels to Scotiabank.

  • You are comfortable in a 24 / 7 environment, working after hours on call to support problem resolution.
  • You have the flexibility to balance multiple accountabilities with competing priorities.
  • You possess the ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines, and to quickly adapt to unforeseen changes in priorities and initiatives.
  • You understand security controls, privacy risk management framework and compliance models.
  • You demonstrate the ability to deal with ambiguity and seek for clarity independently, and work effective with remote, global teams in multiple time zones.
  • You have strong cross team organization collaborative skills.
  • You have familiarity with the following :
  • Web Proxy Technology
  • Intrusion Detection (IDS) and Intrusion Prevention (IPS) systems
  • Email Servers (ie Exchange, O365)
  • Security Information & Event Monitoring (SIEM); Security Event Manager (SEM)
  • You have working knowledge of the following :
  • Virtual Private Networks
  • Packet analysis & inspection
  • Raw security log analysis
  • Data network equipment (Routers, Switches, etc.)
  • Routing Protocols (IP, TCP, BGP, OSPF, etc.)
  • Endpoint security products (HIPS, anti-virus, McAfee, Symantec, Trend Micro, etc.)
  • You work well within a team and individually on projects and tasks.
  • You have excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Your completion of the following accreditations will be considered an asset :
  • Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in any of the following fields : network security, IT security, networking & IT support, Privacy Data Management
  • GSEC, CompTIA Security+
  • CCNA, CompTIA Networking+
  • ITIL
  • CISSP, GCIA, GCIH, GREM, GCFA, CEH, OSCP, certifications from GIAC, CEH and / or SANS
  • Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP)
  • Your proficiency in the Spanish language will be an asset.
