Recognizing the critical importance Planning, Development and Engineering plays in the current and future needs of modern day communities, the City is looking to attract a key member of the executive management team as Director of Development.

Reporting to the General Manager of Integrated Services and a key member of the management team, as Director of Development you will assume full responsibility for the strategic direction of the planning and development, engineering, building inspection, GIS and business license departments.

Leading a team of professional and technical staff, you will hold responsibility for the formulation of planning and development strategies for the city ensuring compliance with relevant provincial legislation.

As Director you will also assume the role of Approving Officer for the municipality. In addition, you hold accountability for customer service policies and procedures that guarantee best of service practices to a wide variety of city clients both internal and external.

Ideally you have a Master’s Degree in Community Planning and / or Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering with eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners.

Alternatively, you have a PEng. designation and in good standing with the EGBC or other relevant qualifications. You have a minimum of 8 to 10 years Planning and Development or Engineering experience in a municipal Planning and Development environment the majority in a management role.

You have comprehensive knowledge of municipal and provincial acts directly related to municipal planning. You are a practical problem solver, deal effectively with competing priorities and well respected for your ability to work well under pressure.

Your impeccable people skills are your trademark and have the ability to deal effectively with all levels of clients both internal and external, staff and Council.

You bring enlightened departmental leadership as well as strategic focus to existing operations.
