Occupational Health Nurse Full Time

HOURS : 0730-1530, 0800-1600, Monday to Friday or as per operational needs may require to support / manage outbreak / emergency situations.

Part of a weekly after hour’s rotation amongst the occupational health nurses.

Travel : Must have reliable vehicle as position requires travel between multiple Osler sites.

  • As a member of the team you play an integral role in creating a safe and healthy workplace through a variety of programs including;
  • health assessments (pre-placement, referrals, and respiratory fitness), health teaching and promotion, and surveillance programs to achieve immunization compliance.

    Supporting our people through our disability management and attendance support programs to maintain a sense of purpose, trust and connection to Osler is important in achieving and supporting a team that goes beyond.


  • Participate with healthy workplace promotion and health education activitiesProvide crisis intervention, health counselling, and health teaching
  • Conduct initial assessments on all new employees
  • Provide immunological services including TB testing and reading

    Lead medical surveillance programs, as required

    Follow-up on reported incidents and / or injuries to staff

    Perform nursing assessments and administer first aid as may be required Assess injured / ill employees for return to work in consultation with managers

    Assisting, advising and supporting the abilities team in formulating modified work / accommodation plans

    Assist in critical injury investigations, as may be required

    Identify, manage and respond to public health notices in a timely manner

    Recommend internal resources (such as EFAP provider, Occupational Health Physician, Physiotherapy, Wellness Specialist, and other consultants) and provide information on external resources

    Provide support to managers on attendance related challenges related to medical conditions

    Other related activities within the Occupational Health & Wellness department, as assigned


  • Current registration and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Certification in Occupational Health Nursing COHN(C) or Certificate or diploma in OH Nursing. Will consider applicants actively engaged in certification process with some courses completed if not other qualified candidates.
  • Membership with Ontario Occupational Health Nurses Association (OOHNA) preferred
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) program
  • Minimum five (5) years’ recent experience in Occupational Health Nursing, preferably in health care
  • Completion of disability management certification e.g. OHSA, applicable regulations, disability management, NIDMAR, CDMP required
  • Minimum 2 years working knowledge and experience in WSIB claims management, STD, LTD and disability management
  • Demonstrated health assessment skills and relevant knowledge to the Public Hospitals Act, and Communicable Disease Surveillance Protocols
  • Knowledge of relevant and current legislation including : OHSA, WSIA, OHRC required
  • Ability to establish positive working relationships with internal / external partners
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills are key to support your work in a fast paced, high energy working environment with competing priorities
  • Computer literacy with intermediate skills with MS Office suite (Word, Excel), working knowledge of Meditech and Parklane is an asset
  • Proven good attendance record with the capability of maintaining this same standard
