In accordance with standards of the Whitecap Dakota First Nation, the Finance Assistant will provide financial support and advice to ensure the efficient operations of the Health Centre.
This role has a dual reporting relationship as it is accountable to the Chief Financial Officer and responsible to the Director, Health and Social Development.
The Finance Assistant will :
Maintain knowledge and understanding of funding agency programs, policies and submissions process;
Evaluate the effectiveness of funding strategies and provide guidance on funding programs and opportunities;
Assist with the preparation and timely submission of funding applications and reporting accountabilities;
Track and ensure compliance of agency funding agreements and guidelines,
Provide accurate and timely financial reports related to the Health Centre;
Assist the Director with operational budget preparation and provide financial analysis as needed;
Report on monthly financial performance and highlight areas of concern to the Director;
Analyze and proactively report on budgetary variances;
Contribute to the overall reporting of the organization’s financial position with a focus on the Health Centre;
Assist with the month / year end analysis required for audit and / or month end close purposes;
Supports implementation of new accounting solutions and ongoing enhancement of existing business practices and policies;
Assist auditors during audit processes;
Act as liaison between Health Centre and Finance department to ensure cooperation;
Create long term relationship with Health Centre management and ensure adequate communication; and
Track and manage contracts and service level agreements for non-insured benefits.
Skills & Qualifications
Post-secondary certificate or diploma in Accounting or Business Administration AND 2-3 years of relevant experience.
Strong understanding of financial management and general accounting procedures.
Strong analytical and reporting skills with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to develop and maintain sustainable relationships at all levels within the organization.
Ability to communicate clearly and accurately, in both written and verbal form.
Experience with computerized accounting and reporting system (SAGE 300) and strong Microsoft Excel skills.
Ability to adapt to change, manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
Must have a valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and a reliable vehicle.
The successful candidate shall be subject to a Criminal Record Check as a condition of employment.
