CityNews Toronto is hiring a part-time producer to take on several responsibilities in our Toronto newsroom. The successful candidate will manage a team of associate producers, assign reporters, line-

up newscasts and be responsible for taking shows to air from the control room.

About you :

You have extensive newsroom experience and like rolling-up your sleeves by taking on a number of daily responsibilities : writing copy, chasing tips, assigning staff, creating line-

ups and being in the control room. You feel comfortable calling the shots when news breaks. Producing in the off-hours’ works for your lifestyle (weekends, late nights).

You thrive when learning new technology and are determined to evolve with our newsroom in this rapidly changing industry.

You understand Toronto and can talk about the characters, neighbourhoods and stories that make this city great.

The day-to-day :

  • Lead editorial and control room teams in the production of several weekend newscasts
  • Assign editorial staff to chase, write and produce stories relevant to our audience
  • Apply your keen attention to detail while vetting scripts and graphics
  • Continuously monitor breaking news and assign appropriate resources to cover
  • Create line-ups and take your show to air
  • Provide strategic coaching to writing and producing staff
  • Work with newsroom management to execute CityNews strategy
  • Pitch and contribute to creative brainstorms and story meetings
  • Help produce special projects (ex. Elections, debates, etc.)
  • Lead & participate in post-production meetings and feedback sessions
  • Be a role model for the newsroom, exemplifying journalistic excellence
  • What you have :

  • Minimum 4-5 years of TV news producing or reporting experience
  • Superior writing, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with live control-room production (experience with OverDrive would be an asset)
  • Creative vision and keen editorial judgment
  • Ability to work individually and part of a team
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Shift : Weekend

    Length of Contract : Not Applicable (Regular Position)

    Work Location : 33 Dundas St. East (909), Toronto, ON

    Travel Requirements : Up to 10%
