Teach For Canada is recruiting teachers forfull-time classroom positions in First Nations in Northern Ontarioand Manitoba.

Successful candidates will start teaching inSeptember 2020.

Why weexist :

Education in Canada is asuccess story, but high overall quality masks deep inequality. Thetwin challenges of teacher supply and turnover compound historicalinjustice and systemic inequities to produce an education gapbetween First Nations and non-First Nations communities.

Teach For Canada is a non-profit organization that workswith northern communities to recruit, prepare, and supportcommitted teachers who will support student success in theNorth.

MinimumQualifications :

  • Certified or certification-eligible to teach in aCanadian province or territory
  • Legal workingstatus in Canada for the minimum two-year teachingcommitment
  • Available to attend the SummerEnrichment Program for 2-3 weeks in July / August (expensescovered)
  • Able to relocate and teach full-timein a northern First Nation
  • Who we look for :

  • You have a strong, flexibleteaching practice and are inclusive of all students. You may work with students who are below grade levelor have to teach outside of your subject specialization.
  • OurTeacher Development team will provide two years of classroomsupport.

  • You are resilient andhave established self-care strategies to overcome challenges. You can sometimes feel isolated and lonely,especially when trying to explain life in the community to familyand friends.
  • We will support you with a community of like-mindedpeers and access to counselling services.

  • You want to work collaboratively withcommunity members to incorporate local knowledge. Itcan be difficult to integrate First Nation cultures and languages,especially if they are new to you.
  • Our Summer Enrichment Programwill prepare you through workshops on Indigenous histories,cultures, and locally-responsive teaching approaches.

    As an organization that works with FirstNations, we value Indigenous perspectives in our program andencourage Indigenous candidates to apply.

    2020 SelectionProcess :

    Applications arereviewed on a rolling basis and you will hear back within two weeksof submission. The deadline to apply for this round of selection is February 26, 2020 .

  • Introductory Interviews : select dates betweenFeb - Mar
  • Fit Interviews : Mar 6 - 8
  • Reference Checks : Mar 9 - 20
  • Finalselection : Mar 23
  • First Nationspartners will begin extending offers of employment to selectedteachers in April 2020.
