The Manager, Product Development will be responsible for the successful implementation of the Design teams’ vision. This role ensures a smooth development process and final execution within the seasonal framework of Roots’ merchandising base and cost targets.
The Manager, Product Development for Roots will be responsible for and evaluated on the following :
Managing the product lifecycle from design to bulk production, providing leadership and direction to the Product Development team while partnering with Design, Materials, Merchandising and Sourcing
Overseeing the product development portion of the product calendar, including all vendor communication and product costing
Adhering to the product calendar, tracking sample progress and solving issues in-order to meet calendar deadlines
Working with vendors throughout the product development process to ensure that we can reach our IMO targets, communicating and problem solving with Design, Materials, Merchandising and Sourcing
Negotiating prices at proto stage in-order to achieve best possible margin
Working closely with the design, technical and sourcing team, to strategically allocate development by designating tech packs out to most suitable maker(s), ensuring a balanced, and leveraged sourcing strategy
Responsible for final and accurate Tech Packs to vendor, ensuring all product is passed to Sourcing with accurate information approved by Design and Merchandising
Providing insight and perspective that can lead to a better and more efficient way to build product
Tracking and facilitating sampling and prototyping for products; identify and address key issues and challenges in construction / manufacturing and plan accordingly to deliver proven and tested product
Monitoring and communicating progress and challenges throughout the product testing process to meet product integrity requirements to QA / compliance
Selecting initial suppliers for sampling (based on initial cost review) in collaboration with Designers and Sourcing
Reviewing all samples with Design to edit and determine SMS sample requirement based on sample execution and cost
Top candidates for the Technical Designer role will have the following :
Degree in Product Development, Management or Merchandising
5-7+ years of product development, assortment planning and merchandising experience within the apparel industry
Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills
Self-lead and an independent thinker with the ability to drive results in a fast pace environment
Strong communication, presentation and influencing skills
Proven ability to foster and maintain strong business partner relationships with internal and external teams
Demonstrated leadership, development and coaching skills to lead an effective team
Extremely detailed and goal oriented, paired with the ability to deliver results against set targets
Demonstrated ability to articulate ideas and communicate with cross-functional teams to achieve goals
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPointas well as Adobe Illustrator
