Job Purpose

Contributes to the overall success of the Canadian Commercial Credit Team ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.

Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

The Manager Credit is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective maintenance of a designated portfolio of the Bank’s Third-Party contracts and the completion of financial assessment of the portfolio.

The Manager works closely with Third Party Risk Management ( TPRM ) contract owners in the financial assessment of new and existing third-party relationships through a combination of financial analysis and sound credit judgement.

Key Accountabilities

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Complete financial health assessment by ensuring the portfolio of the Banks’ Third-Party Contracts assigned are properly spread in Risk Analyst, risk ratings appropriately generated and external rating reports are obtained.
  • Ensure sound and timely recommendations are made with respect to the portfolio of assigned contracts and new contracts.
  • Actively collaborate with contract owners to ensure that the required information is obtained to complete a Financial Health Assessment.
  • Manage an assigned portfolio of contracts and proactively negotiate with contract owners to ensure corrective action are taken when necessary.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his / her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML / ATF / sanctions and conduct risk.

  • Education / Experience

  • Fully Bi-lingual in English and Spanish
  • University Degree or College Diploma preferably in Business Administration
  • A comprehensive knowledge of the Bank’s products and services
  • A good understanding of the Bank’s operating policies and procedures
  • Proven credit judgement, negotiation and problem resolution skills
  • Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work effectively and efficiently
  • Ability to make decisions and clearly communicate rationale for decisions
  • Specific functional or product knowledge
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
