IFRS17 Actuary

This challenging role is part of the IFRS17 Reporting, Process and Change team, comprised of financial professionals in Group Finance Actuarial focused on the implementation of the new IFRS17 Accounting standard.

This team interprets Manulife’s policy decisions and provides requirements to Manulife IT who make actuarial systems changes, including the inclusion of Moody’s Risk Integrity software, to prepare the Company to report on an IFRS17 basis.

In addition, this team works closely with the Group Accounting area to ensure the GL is populated accurately and to develop additional management information that will allow Manulife to not only be compliant to the new standard, but to understand earnings and continue to successfully manage the business.

This is a project role, that will expose the actuary to many different and varying aspects of the IFRS17 development and implementation.


  • Participate in development and implementation of End to End actuarial system processes for IFRS17
  • Act as project manager for MIS workstream for IFRS17, developing agendas, presentation materials and keeping minutes to drive forward the development of MIS to be produced for IFRS17
  • Support project to design and implement the Ledger Based SOE for IFRS17
  • Develop detailed training materials and present to financial audiences at Manulife, to further the understanding of the requirements and implications of the new accounting standards
  • Balance and prioritize work across numerous other sub-projects as required, supporting multiple GFA leaders involved in IFRS17 development
  • Competencies

  • FSA / FCIA with minimum 7 to 10 years experience
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS17 standard
  • Ability to explain new and complex technical concepts to a variety of stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated project management ability
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent technical skills
  • Comfort with learning new analytical software
  • Strong conceptual understanding of actuarial valuation and financial reporting concepts
