The opportunity

The Manager Transmission is responsible for the effective operations of the TVO over-the-air television transmitter network in compliance with applicable regulations, TVO’s mandate, and self-generated revenue objectives.

This includes managing transmission facilities business operations, working with multiple TVO departments, clients and suppliers.

The Manager Transmission is the primary technical liaison with TVO clients and suppliers for transmission facilities and services.

Leading a team of 5-6 transmission technicians, this role operates the department as its own business, serving TVO and external customers, and includes business development, capital management, and project management.

How you will make an impact

Ensure OTA transmission service is delivered in order for TVO to meet its strategic business objectives and mandate

Manage transmitter co-location agreements, relationships and site activities where TVO is licensor

Ensure contractual and operating services are delivered (e.g. tower analysis)

Provide tower rental service per contractual SLAs and required compliance standards

Investigate opportunities to generate additional revenue

Prepare revenue and cost projections for multi-year planning, annual budgets and forecasts

Ensure the timely completion of required inspections related to transmission such as health and safety, tower and fire

Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the transmission team; including definition of roles and allocation of work assignments, travel planning and cost minimization

Some travel on the job is required; valid Ontario Driver’s license in good standing is required to drive a TVO vehicle.

What you will bring to TVO

You have over 3 plus years of related experience in transmitter mechanics and electronics, as well as some experience with IT network management, or equivalent experience.

You are a proven team manager with great customer service skills.

You are a collaborative leader and can train your team to acquire and hone needed skills.

You enjoy working with people and technology, and in leading a profit centre using KPI’s.

You can manage operating and capital budgets, including variance analysis and mid-year forecasting.
