Network Specialist ( Operations Role) This position, as a key player in a team of professionals, is responsible for Operational Support and Network Reliability.
In order to be successful the candidate will need strong Customer focus and experience in Network Operations. The position is on site at the customer’s location (Calgary) working with a large national team to support the customer's global enterprise data and voice network.
Responsibilities : Primary focus for this role will be the support of the customer’s enterprise network within the on-site network operations center.
Perform day to day installations, moves, additions and changes to the customer’s network. Assisting and coordinating changes and repairs to the customer’s voice systems.
Provide Operational support for the Client's Wide and Local area networks. Perform regular changes and maintenance of the diverse set of Hardware Providers (Cisco, Avaya / Nortel, Juniper, F5, Riverbed) in the Client's network according to rigorous change control procedures.
Continually strive to reduce customer-impacting outages / degradation by identification of chronic devices, bandwidth challenges, and analysis of root cause of network problems.
Required Knowledge : Experience with Network Management Tools : Netscout NGenious, Ionix, Opsware and APC Ups Management.
Sound knowledge of enterprise data networks including TCP / IP, DHCP, DNS, BGP, ERGIP, and OSPF. Solid knowledge of Cisco routers and switches is required.
Knowledge and experience with Juniper equipment is required. Knowledge of Avaya / Nortel equipment would be an asset. Required Skills & Abilities : Excellent Incident / Problem solving (Troubleshooting) skills and an ability to perform logical analysis of a given network issue.
Ability to analyze network data packet captures. Ability to present technical data and analysis to Customer Management Excellent attention to detail.
Superior customer communication skills both verbal and written. Bilingual (English / French) is an asset. Required Professional Designation / Certification : Minimum CCNP or CCDP JNCIA or willingness to obtain that certification within 3 months.
Nortel / Avaya data certification would be valuable. Diploma from a Technology Institute in computing, network support or electronics would be desirable.
Required Experience : At least 3 years of network support for an enterprise network. Experience of at least two years working with an Incident (trouble ticketing) and Change Management system.
