Business Development Specialist (1-yr contract)

Waterloo, Ontario

The Business Developer generates, develops and converts employer prospects into paid, creditable co-op jobs for all programs, but will place priority on growing job opportunities for strategically prioritized segments.

The Business Developer must demonstrate excellent sales skills and relationship management with a proven track record of generating leads and successfully converting them to meet strategic targets.

Mitacs agrees to provide the following services for the University during the Term and to make the Business Development Specialist available as an employee of Mitacs for such purpose.

  • Work closely with members of Mitacs Business Development, Research, and Programs teams to deliver high quality programming
  • Work closely with stakeholders at University of Waterloo to fully understand the needs of the researchers and students, find industry opportunities and identify the best programs to leverage the research opportunities uncovered
  • Become well versed in the UW co-operative education model, understanding our programs, students, and process to effectively guide and steward new employers and prospects
  • Present a professional manner and appearance to represent Co-op and the University at conferences, networking events, outreach activities and other special events
  • Demonstrate excellent communication, public presentation and speaking skills, having prepared for every event with research and understanding of audience, targets, and potential for job development
  • Utilize social media to promote Co-op professionally and effectively
  • Create and maintain a network of partners / clients in industry and academia, to increase prospects and leads
  • Actively advance benefits and opportunities (i.e. new funding available) for specific leads and new employers to increase hiring levels and retention through excellent customer service
  • Introduce companies and not-for-profit organizations to various Mitacs programs, namely the Business Strategy Internship program
  • Provide support to the Business Development Team as needed
  • Provide business development support to all Mitacs programs as needed
  • Provide business development and student engagement support to University of Waterloo.
