Position Purpose

We are looking forward to meet a solution and business-oriented candidate to fill a position of Legal Manager. The position is based in Mississauga and reports to the Head of Legal Canada.

The successful candidate will join an agile and versatile team divided between Mississauga and Montreal.

As a member of the legal team, you will have the opportunity to provide legal services on a variety of issues pertaining to all business units of JTI Canada including Sales, Marketing, Corporate Affairs & Communications, People & Culture as well as Finance and IT.

Most of your time, however, will be dedicated to marketing and digital legal matters, as well as managing litigation issues.

Responsibilities :

  • Together with the legal team, provide advice on marketing projects, including digital and e-commerce matters.
  • Analyze legal risks in a wide range of matters related to commercial, regulatory and compliance law.
  • Provide support on litigation matters, including managing relationship with outside counsel and attending to Court hearings.
  • Review proposed legislation, assess impact and keep the business informed, including by preparing and providing training if and when appropriate
  • Work collaboratively as part of the legal team and provide legal support to matters and / or JTI business functions as determined from time to time.
  • Qualifications :

  • Qualified lawyer with current license to practice.
  • Experience in common law an asset
  • 5 to 8 years of relevant experience with a leading law firm and / or in-house
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken - Bilingualism (English and French) considered an asset
  • Excellent decision-making and management skills
  • Ability to creative effective working relationship across all business functions and business lines, as well as with external stakeholders and external counsel, on legal and regulatory matters.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Occasional travel will be required
