As a member of the MCE standards team, you will support infrastructure (power and cooling) projects by providing technical support and expertise.
In an emergency situation, you will lead the post disaster root cause analysis and discovery assessment. You will be an invaluable expert and point of knowledge for mission critical environments.

Capital Projects Support Role : You will review technical design drawings for constructability’ ensuring no outage risk to building infrastructure You will assess implementation risk and develop methods of procedures (MOP) You will ensure risk mitigation plans are place for all major power and HVAC related work You will lead the review of plans and coordinate impacted stakeholder reviews / approvals During construction, you will attend all high risk or complex after hour project change windows and help to ensure MOP’s are implemented successfully
Emergencies / Failures : You will be the single point of contact for complex power and HVAC-related failures or outages, and / or complex site emergencies at your assigned sites You will lead a team to triage the problem and engage the right internal / external experts for assistance You will help to develop recovery plans post emergency situation You will communicate plans with managers, directors, and VPs
Technical Building Expertise : You are an expert in building infrastructure such as AC Power and HVAC You will provide technical expertise on complex building infrastructure related changes including (a) new equipment installations, (b) existing equipment replacements, and (c) infrastructure transformation initiatives such as new technology introductions, space refresh, and modernization plans You will lead the development of building and equipment standard operating procedure (SOP) and emergency operating procedures (EOP), and identify any gaps or further development opportunities You will lead a team of your peers to conduct building risk assessments and work together to help close any risk or reliability issues You will work very closely with TELUS planning, standards, project management, and operations team (building, power, and network ops) to prioritize and implement building reliability and resiliency improvement opportunities You will help to develop a building technical documents repository
You have a good to expert level of understanding of AC power including operations, distribution, transformation, switching, and terminations, as well as protective devices such as breakers and surge suppression, and grounding
You must have a good to expert level of understanding of HVAC systems including operations, distribution, transformation, as well critical or key cooling equipment
You must be able to read and analyze Mechanical and Electrical Drawings
You’re the missing piece of the puzzle
You have 5-10 years of experience working directly on AC power or HVAC systems, with good knowledge of operation & installation of Commercial HVAC and AC power systems (i.
e. equipment and distribution)
You have a university degree in mechanical or electrical engineering
You are professional engineer or qualify to become a Licensed Professional Engineer (or eligible) preferred
You are a CET technician, with 10-15 years extensive related AC power or HVAC experience will be considered
Demonstrated strong leadership in high-stress crisis situations takes full command of the situation and able to maintain calm and pragmatic approach to lead issue containment, triage and resolution
Strong situational analysis related to developing and implementing recovery plans on short notice
Must be able to read and interpret single line drawings for both Power and HVAC, in a Telecom, Communications or 24 / 7 Mission Critical facility
Project management skills directly related to installation and / or retrofit scenarios in a telecom / communications environment
Clear and articulate communicator capable of delivering concise directions and instructions during stressed emergency situations
Comfortable and effective communicating with all levels of management, including SVP / EVP
Passionate with a can-do attitude
Experience working and communicating directly with power and HVAC trades strong / robust trade networks
Experience with leading / managing operations & maintenance of AC power systems
Hands-on experience leading containment and recovery of power equipment or system failures and outages in a live-traffic environment
End-to-end delivery experience with facilities infrastructure projects / programs (i.e. AC / DC power, space, HVAC) planning, design, builds
Working knowledge of, or experience in telecom / communications sites - traditional CO / MSO (central office) and / or IDC (data centre)
Uptime accredited tier designer or operator
