An excellent opportunity exists to join the Programs and Portfolio Management team in our Toronto location for a 10-Month Temporary Assignment.
This is a Front Line Manager role, you will lead the day-to-day operations of the Underwriting Assistant team, including training and development, and will be involved in the overall leadership of the Programs and MGA Management Team.
Accountabilities : Manages work load and provides transactional directions to a team of Underwriting Assistants, providing a good balance of delegation.
Executes standard processes / guidelines / transactions through set parameters Communicates standards to Underwriting Assistants within well-established business structures Support and guide the team to ensure operational efficiency is improved and achieved by, building a productive team with coaching, mentorship, and motivation.
Encourage and demonstrate accountability and taking initiative with more difficult and non-standard situations, equip the team to be solution focused.
Your passion and drive to support, lead, coach and mentor will contribute to achieve a high level of performance, improve relationships in the team, and the achievement of individual and departmental objectives, including assessing and providing training.
Manage all aspects of people management, building winning capabilities, crafting simplicity within processes, and dedicating time to monthly one-on-one meetings with the Underwriting Assistants.
Active involvement in project execution, including GCS strategic initiatives Maintain awareness of Broker and Management initiatives Participate in the Self Review process, and broker audits as required, including oversight on Broker audit and peer audit processes.
Required Qualifications, Knowledge, & Skills : Post-Secondary education in insurance or a related field, and / or equivalent work experience in general insurance.
Commercial underwriting background coupled with CIP (or enrolment). Proven experience of leadership capabilities (i.e. team lead, project lead, mentors).
Formal supervisory / leadership experience is a huge plus. Solid written communication skills and ability to write in the context of informing and teaching.
Strong underwriting technical aptitude, translates technically complex concepts into operational / performance terms at a transactional level.
Appropriately disseminate information to staff. Exceptional communication skills with the ability to convey decisions and information clearly with front-line staff and external brokers, MGA’s Build effective relationships with teams and get results through a collaborative approach with internal and external partners Lead and guide the problem resolution process that are defined in transactional terms under the appropriate company guidelines and policies.
