Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the leading provider of cloud computing services, providing IT infrastructure offerings such as on-demand compute capacity, storage, content delivery, database services and more.
We are looking for a bi-lingual talented, innovative, and well-connected individual to represent AWS before federal / provincial / municipal decision makers and senior government executives in Ottawa at the federal level and in the province of Quebec.
You will become familiar with all aspects of AWS’s Canada business, interface directly with relevant business units and technology and services teams at AWS, and address risks and advance opportunities for the business through your advocacy and policy work.
Reporting to the Head of AWS Public Policy for Canada, you will work with a dedicated and talented team of people to achieve important business goals.
You will work directly with business leaders, support teams, and customers to develop and execute effective government affairs advocacy strategies to protect and advance our interests before provincial and municipal governments, with an emphasis on the federal government and the province of Quebec.
You will work with our public sector and commercial businesses to create a policy environment that promotes cloud adoption to help customers thrive.
You will achieve goals using a variety of tactics including direct lobbying, facilitating high-level meetings between AWS executives and key stakeholders, managing consultants, working through trade associations, building coalitions, and more.
The position will be based in the national capital of Ottawa, Ontario.
A bachelor’s degree.
At least 8+ years of experience lobbying in Canada and / or commensurate legislative or executive branch experience.
Fluent (speaking, writing & reading) in English and French.
8+ years of experience representing a large company or association, preferably but not necessarily in the Internet / tech industry, before policymakers, including significant experience on public sector acquisition and procurement policy, preferably at the federal level and the provincial level in Quebec.
Experience should include deep understanding of legislative and policymaking processes.
A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in a relevant discipline (Political Science, Public Policy, Engineering, etc.
An advanced degree is preferred.
Strong knowledge of and background in advocacy and public policy development pertaining to information technology-related (IT) issues such as an innovation agenda and public sector policies such as cloud computing, government IT management reform, IT infrastructure / applications, renewable energy, procurement and contracting, information assurance / cyber security, IT services, and corporate compliance.
Highly effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated ability to effectively and comfortably interact at the highest corporate and government levels.
Maintain highest personal levels of ethical conduct, confidentiality and integrity, with strongest professional reputation in the industry.
Self-starter with proven track record of successfully working with a wide array of functional groups across an organization.
Ability to identify and understand key technical aspects pertaining to corporate operations in legislative and regulatory proposals, understand business implications, and synthesize policy documents for internal and external customers.
Ability to influence, negotiate with, and persuade others is required.
Must be flexible and demonstrate strong judgment / decision-making skills, and political acumen.
Demonstrated ability to build and foster effective relationships and networks with others.
The ability to travel based on business need.
