The Opportunity
The EMST Apprentice will work with a small and dedicated team of mechanical service professionals. The EMST Apprentice will Wind, assemble and install various types of coils;
Test and observe electrical and mechanical conditions of equipment; Perform static or dynamic balancing of rotors; Perform on-site service and repair;
Troubleshoot and repair electric motors, generators and other electro-mechanical equipment; Replace or recondition shafts, bearings, commutators or other components;
Perform some machining to recondition or modify shafts, commutators or other parts; Test repaired motors, or other electrical apparatus to ensure proper performance.
The Role
Wind, assemble and install various types of coils
Test and adjust repaired products for proper functioning
Read and interpret diagrams
Perform static or dynamic balancing of armatures or rotors
Assemble rotors or armatures for heavy-duty electric motors
Replace or recondition shafts, bearings, commutators and other components
Test and repair or replace faulty wiring or components in electrical switchgear
Test repaired motors, transformers, or other electrical apparatus to ensure proper performance by supervisor
Additional Skills :
Weld or braze components; Read electrical schematics, blueprints and other technical diagrams; Read and interpret blueprints / sketches / specifications;
The Candidate
Electric Motor Service Technician Journeyman or 10+ years of related working experience.
Enrolled in an apprenticeship program (ie. Mechanical or Millwright). 2-3 years of working experience
Experience in data acquisition, vibration analysis and field balancing preferred. CAT II or above an asset.
Strong time management skills including, experience successfully managing many small projects at one time
Exceptional communication skills (written and oral) and computer skills
Ability to problem solve on site and under time constraints
Basic machinery assembly experience
Ability to lift / position heavy motor components
