QM’s four business lines include Demolition and Decommissioning, Hazardous Materials Abatement, Environmental Remediation including Civil Earthworks, and Emergency Management & Environmental Response Services.

We have an immediate opening in our Special Projects team. You will specifically work for the next 8 to 18 months on one of the premiere environmental restoration projects in North America, preparing you for many more such projects with the QM team in the future.

You will be front and centre remediating toxic and hazardous substances in our soil, water and air, enabling re-development and / or ecosystem restoration.


This is an Operations role, responsible for assisting the Project Manager with projects from start to finish, ensuring that projects are completed according to the schedule, contract specification and budget.

Reporting directly to existing Project Managers, QM Project Coordinators act as Deputy Project Managers , advancing into Project Management and Business Leadership positions.

A unique, advanced Project Coordinator position is currently open in Toronto on one of Canada’s highest profile environmental remediation projects.

This specific Project Coordinator position has unique responsibilities for creating and updating complicated interdependent, resource-loaded CPM schedules in Microsoft Project and conducting cost modelling / estimation in Microsoft Excel.

You will also generally support multiple on-site teams, using your skills and expertise to solve problems and improve performance on a daily basis.


Project Management Support

  • Focus on project management support for the team, to ensure deliverables are met and client requirements are sourced in a timely and professional manner
  • Plan and prepare construction schedules and milestones and monitor progress against established schedules
  • Resource load construction schedules and produce resourcing histograms
  • Prepare contracts for consultants, clients, suppliers and subcontractors
  • Obtain supplier quotes
  • Prepare and manage purchase orders
  • Assist Project Manager with compiling and documenting progress billings for clients
  • Extract / summarise and file email correspondence
  • Attend site walks, walk-throughs, inspections and meetings
  • Attend project management meetings- Complete, distribute and file minutes of meetings
  • Compile and maintain project summary sheets
  • Maintain project photo logs
  • Assist in the preparation of estimates to complete
  • Calculate and monitor key performance criteria, such as earned value, schedule performance index and cost performance index
  • Follow up with subcontractors and subordinate staff to ensure work is being completed
  • Provide training and support to superintendents and other staff on field data entry
  • Project administration and project management during overload
  • Business Development

  • Search for and distribute bid opportunities
  • Assist with the preparation of proposals, expressions of interest and prequalification packages
  • Documentation Support

  • Obtain business license for job location
  • Prepare all field packages for Superintendents
  • Prepare contracts and additions to contractual agreements with consultants, clients, suppliers and subcontractors
  • Prepare and update operational plans
  • Prepare and update contract submittals
  • Maintain current logs of submittals, RFIs, Work Instructions, Supplemental Information, Contemplated Change Notices, Change Orders and similar project management documentation
  • Assist in tracking / assigning / documenting costs per task and change order
  • Assemble invoice back-up
  • File copy of signed contract for audit requirements
  • Update standard project checklist
  • Obtain Certificates of Insurance
  • Obtain project numbers / create files
  • Health and Safety

  • Read, understand and follow Corporate Health and Safety Program, Policy and Procedures
  • Ensure health and safety is considered in the performance of all activities
  • Support local Health and Safety Coordinators, as required
  • Carry out health and safety inspections and hazard IDs
  • Technical Application

  • Participate in ongoing industry training to ensure "best practices"
  • Bring new solutions and opportunities to the attention of the Project Manager
  • Work with Project Managers, Superintendents and technical experts to continuously improve health & safety, schedule performance and cost performance
  • Other duties, as required

    Project Coordinators are the next generation of QM Project Managers and are regularly assigned stretch assignments to build their capacity and enable their promotion.


  • B.Sc. / B.Eng. in applied science, engineering or construction management, or equivalent combination of education and relevant on-the-job experience
  • Degree work in civil, chemical, environmental, mining or geotechnical engineering preferred.
  • Experience

  • Direct experience in preparing construction estimates
  • At least two years cumulative real-world experience in construction management with responsibility for resource allocation, project management and contract administration
  • Knowledge

  • A basic understanding of Federal and Ontario environmental protection and health & safety legislation, standards, and guidelines
  • A basic understanding of earthworks and / or environmental remediation and landfill construction, including heavy equipment selection and production estimates
  • A good understanding of tender and construction management processes, Canadian construction law, and related contractual conditions
  • An excellent understanding of project management best practices and tools, including a high level of expertise with Microsoft Project, Excel and Word
  • Knowledge and experience with Trimble Business Center, Civil3D, Leapfrog, and / or Microsoft Dynamics / Microsoft Dynamics NAV is not required, but an asset
  • Abilities

  • Able to analyze and evaluate contaminated sites problems and to plan multi-disciplinary teams of technical and field operations personnel and external consultants to execute remediation solutions

  • Majority of time will be spent on job sites
  • Travel will be required
  • Use of specialized PPE, including half or full-faced respirator, may be required (training provided)
  • Work is often intermittently outdoors from the relevant field office / field trailer, and is often exposed to weather (dress appropriately)
  • Hours can be long, between 10 12 hours per day based on project and client requirements
