Working with the Calgary Prosecutions team and representing the Crown, you will conduct criminal litigation in the Provincial Court and in the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta.
Applying a strong knowledge of federal and provincial statutes, you will be responsible for the prosecution of a variety of cases.
This will involve determining appropriate charges, discussions with defense counsel and other stakeholders.
Utilizing your exceptional verbal and written communication skills, you will prepare legal arguments and opinions as well as provide advice and assistance to peace officers and community agencies.
This opportunity will constantly challenge your proven legal skills, strong decision making skills and your ability to work independently and in a team setting.
Qualifications A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) / Juris Doctor (JD), and active member or eligible for full membership with the Law Society of Alberta is required.
Experience in prosecutions and / or criminal law is preferred.
Legal Officer 1 : 0 - 4 years legal experience is required
Legal Officer 2 : a minimum of 4 years legal experience is required
Legal Officer 3 : a minimum of 11 years legal experience is required

Salary Legal Officer 1 - $3,055.53 - $3,936.73 bi-weekly
Legal Officer 2 - $4,391.03 - $5,600.88 bi-weekly
Legal Officer 3 - $5,535.55 - $6,467.12 bi-weekly
Notes This competition may be used to fill current and future temporary or permanent vacancies, across the Government of Alberta, at the same or lower classification level.
