Competentia seeks a Lead Instrument Electrical Engineer for a position in Medicine Hat, Alberta :

The Lead Instrument Electrical (I / E) Engineer has overall responsibility for the strategic oversight and tactical delivery of the instrument and electrical engineering, design, and project management functions within the Technical department.

Personnel Management :

Promote the technical and core competency development of direct reports.

Align and motivate direct reports to achieve departmental objectives.

Ensure direct reports seamlessly support the Operations and Maintenance teams.

Ensure resources are available for direct reports to meet core Responsible Care requirements.

Ensure timely management of personnel concerns and challenges.

Leadership :

Ensure Employee and contractor compliance with Methanex policies, procedures, and applicable standards.

Involve direct reports in developing and actioning the annual Technical department plan; ensure alignment with the rest of the Technical department.

Effectively communicate current activities and initiatives.

Ensure implementation of and compliance with all Methanex HR polices and procedures, including performance optimization.

Support the implementation and update of policies and procedures for the Technical department and ensure these polices and procedures are understood by direct reports (i.

e. management of change).

Budget Management :

Support the Technical Manager with review and management of the annual operating budget and capital budgets for the department.

Mentor and ensure I / E project leads effectively and efficiently manage operating and project costs.

Update the capital expenditure plan and report on financial utilization on a consistent basis.

Digital Control Systems Administration :

Perform administration of main plant control systems, including monthly system software backups, system configurations and graphics.

Troubleshoot control systems failures.

Provide project support to the system, including software modifications, pre-commissioning and commissioning.

Develop procedures related to the system and provide on-going training pertaining to the software and systems.

Develop advanced control functionality on the main plant control system.

Project Management :

Manage Technical projects related to instrumentation, control systems, electrical systems, etc.

Utilize the Management of Change (MOC) procedure to progress a project from initiation to completion.

Manage contract engineering services that are responsible for I / E modifications and upgrades.

Simultaneously manage multiple projects as required.

Engineering Services :

Support Maintenance and Operations in regard to troubleshooting instrument and electrical issues, plant start-ups or shutdowns.

Support SMT requests related to I / E issues.

Maintain and utilize knowledge of leading practices and technologies in instrumentation, control systems and electrical fields.

Lead or participate in PHAs.

General :

Ensures compliance with all Pressure Equipment Integrity Management (PEIM) responsibilities, relative to role, as per the PEIM Manual.

Global Team Participation :

Actively participate as a member of the Global Electrical Team (GET).

Participate in monthly GET conference calls.

Participate in identifying key activities in order to align I / E teams.

Network with other Methanex sites to share knowledge and expertise.

Actively support the I / E team and Technical department in leadership, decision-making and problem-solving activities.

Work in partnership with Operations and Maintenance teams with regards to I / E systems and project management.

Maintain effective and constructive working relationships with external contract support services.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education / Training)

Undergraduate degree in electrical engineering or computer engineering with a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation through the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), or post-secondary diploma in Instrument Technology and Registered Engineering Technologist (RET) or Professional Technologist (P.

Tech) designation through the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET)

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS (Other Skills / Requirements)

For an Electrical Engineer, seven (7) years’ experience with five (5) years in a petrochemical facility or similar industrial environment or for an Instrument or Electrical Technologist, twelve (12) years’ experience with eight (8) years in a petrochemical facility or similar environment

Experience with engineering practice and the management of change work flow

Knowledge of full-cycle project management, including cost management

Experience in project management of medium sized projects

Experience in selecting and managing contract engineering firms

Technical and working knowledge of control systems and philosophies

Specific technical knowledge of the Delta V system

Working knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)

Working knowledge of field instrumentation and electrical equipment, and equipment specification, sizing and selection

Working knowledge of DCS archive systems is considered an asset

Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office software
