Job Description : Sales Engineer
ActiveState Platform - made by developers for developers! We are reinventing build engineering with an on-demand SaaS Platform and CLI tool that lets developers automate the building of any runtime environment using any open source language ecosystem on any platform.
In Beta right now, we support Python and Perl and we're hiring to add more languages and packages! We’re building an ambitious language distribution platform so that no engineer ever has to suffer dependency hell again, and we need your help to do it!
This position is based out of our headquarters in beautiful Vancouver, BC. Remote work is available during the current health situation and depending on the position may be considered afterwards , as long as you are able to work on a schedule that aligns with our core North American business hours of 10 : 00am - 4 : 00pm PST.
To help drive ActiveState’s next stage of growth of sales of our SaaS platform, we are looking for an energetic and hungry Sales Engineer to help grow our business.
Reporting to the VP, Sales & Corporate Development, the Sales Engineer will drive and actively support the technical discovery, presentation and evaluation stage of the sales process for the ActiveState Platform, mostly focused currently on Python and security related opportunities.

Work with account executives on assigned direct customer / prospect and partner opportunities, prioritizing based on maximizing sales target achievements and corporate goals
Scope the technical solution required to address customer requirements, recommend solutions including security recommendations related to Python
Assess detailed technical requirements, then collaborate with engineering services and account managers to provide accurate estimates for custom work and SOWs
Manage process of guided trials to ensure successful experience and outcome
Maintain collaborative relationships with technical influencers amongst prospects, from CTO and VPs to software engineers
Respond to functional and technical elements of RFIs / RFPs
Collaborate with product management, engineering, customer success / support, and marketing, providing feedback from the field to internal stakeholders
Share technical product and industry knowledge with sales and marketing staff
Assist with post-sales customer success and services as required to ensure successful customer transition
Special projects to improve current processes related to security scanning, and data analysis for sales and customer success teams
Requirements : Education, Experience, Skills
University degree or college diploma in computer science or related field
2-5+ years relevant experience with IT solutions in a business-to-business (B2B) environment
Experience selling to or working with large enterprises, particularly with highly secure IT environments, working with tech execs (VP-level) and technical staff (software developers, data scientists, etc)
Experience with Python a must; experience with other languages (Java, Go, Ruby, etc) an asset
Experience in applying Python to analytics / data science / machine learning use cases an asset
Experience with micro services architectures an asset
Experience with Linux, Windows, Docker, cloud (AWS, Azure or GCP), CI / CD, and artifact repository managers an asset
Passion for the use of open source in large enterprises, hands-on experience with open source platforms an asset
A natural problem solver with the ability to proactively multi-task and manage multiple opportunities and customers
Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills
Entrepreneurial, strong work ethic, ability to be self-directed but also collaborative
Able to travel up to 25% (North America) as required
