Our workforce of over 2, will grow to more than 2, at peak construction of the Canadian Surface Combatants. We have built more than 80% of Canada's current combatant fleet and continue to perform maintenance and modernization work on the ships, including the Halifax-class frigates.

Irving Shipbuilding Inc. is seeking a Hull Outfitting Specialist.

This is a permanent full-time role based in Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. The primary language of work is English.

Qualifications :

  • Engineering Diploma;
  • 4-8+ years of relevant experience working in naval ship design, commercial shipbuilding, or other military procurement programs;
  • Familiarity with the design of shipboard hull outfitting systems;
  • Familiarity with performance and environmental requirements for equipment and systems;
  • Familiarity with naval shipboard processes and procedures;
  • Oversight of vendor furnished information and equipment;
  • Familiarity with the preparation and review of technical specifications for equipment and materials purchase;
  • Strong personal time management skills;
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office;
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing;
  • Other assets include : Experience working on naval ship design, commercial shipbuilding, or other large military procurement programs;
  • Experience with integrating ship outfitting including shipboard lifting appliances, winches, anchoring & mooring equipment, davits, aviation support systems, watertight doors & hatches, accommodation systems, joiner interior;
  • accommodations, and fixtures for accommodation and workshop spaces; Experience in integrating naval vessel mission equipment.

    All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.

    S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

    Key Responsibilities :

  • Develop and foster client and subcontractor relationships;
  • Participate in Integrated Product Teams in support of development of the CSC design;
  • Assess compliance with systems requirements throughout the CSC design and construction;
  • Support the review of system maturity during technical design reviews;
  • Technical oversight of subcontractor development of design deliverables and technical specifications;
  • Collaborate with Change Management (CM) Team to ensure CM process is flowed down and closely adhered to by each Sub Contractor;
  • Address risk items relating to the Hull Outfitting and Aviation Team areas of responsibility, including identification and risk mitigation planning;
  • Assist in developing and implementing test procedures and requirements verification tracking;
  • Participate in the development and oversight of testing and commissioning procedures;
  • Interface with shipyard production and planning teams to ensure the outfitting design products adequately reflect facility limitations, capabilities, and build methodology;
  • Propose design and process improvements related to vessel producibility, shipyard safety, and production performance.
