Position Title : Senior Hardware Engineer
Position Summary :
We are seeking a highly motivated and versatile Senior Hardware Engineer to join our dynamic team and company. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to bring multiple products from concept to mass production, creating a portfolio of next generation smart textile products on our textile computing platform.
To be successful, the candidate must have a strong background in electrical and hardware engineering and have had experience bringing products to market.
We are looking for a leader who can drive our team with unique and novel designs, implementations and solutions. Applicants should have a keen eye for solving problems that currently do not have well defined solutions and be able to rapidly design and prototype these ideas.
He or she will work with limited supervision and will be accountable for the delivery and critical appraisal of their results.
The successful candidate will join a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, engineers, textile experts, fashion designers and entrepreneurs to actively participate in the creation and optimization of new products.
Research, design and develop state-of-art mixed-signal bio-signal acquisition and actuation hardware systems
Work with mechanical team to develop innovative methods of integrating miniaturized electronics into mechanical enclosures and integration into various textile form factors
Lead, manage and support hardware projects
Schematic capture and miniaturized PCB layout
Design for manufacturability upfront
Optimize designs for miniaturization, manufacturing and cost
Characterize, verify and validate new ICs for new product integration
Hardware architecture design
Develop basic firmware drivers for validating new ICs
ASIC architecture design
Develop product specifications and verification test plans for consumer, medical and industrial applications
Product compliance and V&V testing
Review international standards (IEC, ISO, IPC, etc.) for product specification compliance
Bring-up PCBAs, create test plans, generate test reports, perform RCAs and iterate on designs
Meet with CMs, FAEs, sales reps to maintain strong relationships with distributors and manufacturers
Work closely with the electrical, firmware, industrial design, mechanical and textile teams to fulfill product requirements
Interface with CMs
Preference will be given to those who are legally entitled to work in Canada
BASc, MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related field
5+ years of experience in hardware design
Proven experience bringing multiple products from concept to production
Led the development of a product to market in the consumer electronics space
Experience with managing junior engineers
An expert in analog and mixed-signal design skills
Strong RF and electromagnetism design experience
Strong schematic design and miniaturized PCB layout experience (Altium preferred)
Strong circuit analysis / debugging and PCB bring-up / debugging experience
Strong design review skills
Experience with ultra low-power embedded designs
Experience in embedded system architecture and development
Understanding programming principles associated specifically with embedded systems
Experience with speed and power optimization on a resource constrained mobile platform
Medical device development experience, IEC 60601-1,etc.
Experience with BOM management / optimization, quotes and DFM / DFA
Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making capabilities
Excellent command of the English language both verbal and written
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
Strong desire for entrepreneurial management style and ethical business practices
Expert in bio-signal acquisition and actuation (ECG, EMG, EEG, PPG, BCG, EMS, contactless sensing, chemical sensing, motion capture, energy harvesting, to name a few)
