Coherent is seeking an to work on high-end specialty custom optics components for 10 weeks during the summer of 2020. The successful candidate will work in a larger technical team of engineers and technicians.

They will interact closely with optical and mechanical engineers and with project managers in a structured and fast-paced R&D environment.

  • In This Role You Will :

  • Develop your skills with hands-on testing and fabrication of complex precision optical components.
  • Learn to build and align optical systems and component tests.
  • Acquire the tools to develop and evaluate process plans for the manufacture of complex and precise optical surfaces using novel fabrication techniques, including troubleshooting and data analysis.
  • Assist in the development and design of tooling to support optical metrology and manufacturing.
  • Education and Work Experience :

  • Currently pursuing a BS or Master’s degree program with a specialization in optics, applied physics or a related major
  • Hands-on lab skills in aligning optical metrology setups, characterization, problem-solving and willing to work in the lab
  • Experience with Python / LabVIEW / Matlab / ZEMAX is a plus
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to support ITAR programs (US Citizen or permanent resident)
