Coherent is seeking an to work on high-end specialty custom optics components for 10 weeks during the summer of 2020. The successful candidate will work in a larger technical team of engineers and technicians.
They will interact closely with optical and mechanical engineers and with project managers in a structured and fast-paced R&D environment.

In This Role You Will :
Develop your skills with hands-on testing and fabrication of complex precision optical components.
Learn to build and align optical systems and component tests.
Acquire the tools to develop and evaluate process plans for the manufacture of complex and precise optical surfaces using novel fabrication techniques, including troubleshooting and data analysis.
Assist in the development and design of tooling to support optical metrology and manufacturing.
Education and Work Experience :
Currently pursuing a BS or Master’s degree program with a specialization in optics, applied physics or a related major
Hands-on lab skills in aligning optical metrology setups, characterization, problem-solving and willing to work in the lab
Experience with Python / LabVIEW / Matlab / ZEMAX is a plus
Ability to work in cross-functional teams
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to support ITAR programs (US Citizen or permanent resident)
