The Opportunity :
As a Senior Engineer for Calgary’s Transmission System, you will play an important role in the development and sustainment of transmission design, construction and material standards and guidelines that will support ENMAX Power Delivery.
General Accountabilities :
Manage, develop, review, modify, approve and authenticate technical design, construction, equipment and material content in Transmission standards, technical guidelines, specifications and acceptance criteria.
Collaborate with engineering and field staff on areas such as :
Facilitate stakeholder engagement, address feedback, questions and update requests and manage the storage and distribution of the documents
Coach, train and provide support to internal and external stakeholders on the application of these standards, technical guidelines and specifications
Collaborate with supply chain on material and equipment tenders
Perform engineering evaluation and recommendations on contract awards
Approve materials related to construction standards and collaborate with the Estimating team to ensure compatible unit alignment with the design and construction standards.
Engage and collaborate with peers across Power Delivery to connect the teams and execute together on objectives to achieve better results
Arbitrate requests for deviations to specifications and standards
Review scope and execution plans for critical projects to ensure appropriate inclusion of standards, technical guidelines and specifications and arbitrate exceptions where required
Audit project scopes to ensure accurate inclusion of standards, technical guidelines and specifications.
Develop and maintain QA / QC ITP requirements
Handle emergency and urgent requests related to hazards and support the asset team for condition assessment and health indices used for ranking assets
Work with external stakeholders like manufacturers, suppliers, provincial and national standards organizations and regulatory bodies such as the AESO and AUC
Support the development of processes, procedures and KPI’s
BSc. in Civil or Electrical Engineering
Professional engineer (P.Eng) status with APEGA or other provincial governing body
10 + years’ engineering experience with a strong focus in transmission design
Background with construction material specification, procurement and application
Proficient with PLS CADD and PLS Pole
Detailed knowledge of industry codes and standards
Demonstrated technical proficiency in designing, reviewing, and approving transmission designs including steel, wood and laminate structures in an urban design environment
Ability to conduct site inspections as required
Good troubleshooting skills and ability to create and interpret Transmission overhead and underground drawings
