WHAT WILL YOU DO IN A WEEK? :
As Senior Estimator within the Civil division, you will work in collaboration with the Civil Director and other experienced members of your team in sustaining and advancing Pomerleau's growth in Western Canada.
You will be responsible for compiling accurate estimates for projects such as bridges, highways, interchanges and tunnels which will include the following :
Analyze plans and specs in a general way to have an overview of the project in order to :
Visualize the scope of the work to execute;
Find out which specialties are involved in the work;
Verify if the project features some special work;
Assess the time required to accomplish one’s work while respecting the date to submit the bid.
Verify if a site visit is mentioned in the call for bids and inform the head estimator of such a fact;
Draw up and send bond and insurance requests for each project in the bid process in collaboration with the administrative assistant;
Draw up the list of specialties and the list of subcontractors to reach for each these specialties;
Draw up the list of materials and the list of suppliers to reach for each of these materials;
Produce the bill of materials for the specialties determined by the head estimator;
Provide the purchasing department with the necessary information to search for prices pertaining to some materials used for the project;
Prepare the summary of quantities according to the study of the plans and specs for each section of the specs, including relevant information;
Set up study in estimation software and include subcontracted tasks, self-performed tasks, work teams, work rates, work ratios, quantities to achieve, etc.;
Analyze the project carefully and plan for construction methods involving indirect costs, such as temporary roads and accesses, specific tools, formwork, equipment, site conditions, construction lead times, etc.;
Plan and prepare resource table or supervise this work with the methods engineer;
Analyze changes in addenda issued during the call for bids period;
Set up price binder in collaboration with the administrative assistant for the estimation department;
Receive, from subcontractors and suppliers, prices relating to their specialties;
Receive , from the purchasing department, prices pertaining to supplier materials;
Assist the head estimator in determining material and labor prices for each of the jobs to be performed and in the study of bids received from subcontractors through the BSDQ;
Open envelopes from the BSDQ upon receiving them and file prices received in price binder;
Make sure all prices received by phone, email, and fax at the BSDQ are complete according to plans and specs of the bid project;
Prepare general project costs supervision, general conditions, offices, insurance, specific equipment, safety, quality, etc.;
Take part in bid closing;
Establish a preliminary work schedule, including the resources work force, supervision, equipment on the construction site;
Ensure proper archiving of the bid and assess results;
Take part in the transfer meeting.
DO YOU HAVE THESE QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS? :
Post secondary education in Civil Engineering or other construction related program
At least 5 years of relevant experience estimating Civil construction projects for a general contractor
Previous experience with bridges, interchanges and tunnels is strongly preferred
Good knowledge in excavation and formwork
High-level skills in plan and specs reading
Results driven, detail oriented and an analytical mindset with a desire to develop a long term career in Estimating
