Job Summary

The Sr Buyer reports directly to the CFO and is responsible for strategic and tactical procurement of commodities, supplies, and services to be used by the organization, in relation to Production and Engineering resources.

This person has corporate responsibilities and coordinates directly with Production, Supplychain, Transportation, and Management in order to maintain the appropriate level of inventory for JIT sequenced delivery to customers.

He or she will use their expert knowledge to purchase goods and services that meet quality requirements and specifications at the most favourable price for the Company, while building and maintaining strategic relationships with key suppliers.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

Provide purchasing leadership and initiative for the programs in production and at the quoting stage. Negotiate contracts.

Identify vendors and review contracts. Manage project-related initiatives. Understands and directs commodity management.

Participate in production scheduling meetings. Analyze inventory needs and maintain appropriate levels, ensuring management is aware of deficiencies or concerns on an ongoing basis.

Provide product, storage, and order information on an ongoing basis. Work with the R&D department for developmental project needs and with the QA department for quality concerns related purchased parts for assembly and packaging.

Position Requirements

Formal Education University Degree or diploma (CPP or CPM) in a related field and minimum 8 years of relevant experience in an automotive tier 1 environment handling large buys.

There is potential for development into a manager role and leadership / supervisory experience is important

Knowledge and Experience Direct experience in the JIT sequenced product category and an innate ability to handle multiple projects and problems at a given time.

Interior or cockpit experience preferred, comprehensive experience in vendor agreements. Strong leadership and analytical skills.

Solid understanding of purchasing principles, Six Sigma, demand planning, MRP, LEAN, TPS.
