The Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) is one of two branches of Government responsible for the wholesale distribution and retail sale of beverage alcohol and non-medical cannabis.

In 2018 / 19 the LDB recorded gross sales of $3.6 billion, generating a net income of $1.104 billion that supported vital public services including health care and education.

It has a workforce of approximately 4600 full- and part-time employees working across 197 BC Liquor Stores, 9 BC Cannabis Stores (online and stand alone), a Head Office, three Wholesale Customer Centres and three Distribution Centres.

The LDB is led by a General Manager and CEO who is responsible for administering the Liquor Distribution Act and the Cannabis Distribution Act, subject to direction from the Minister.

As part of BC’s mixed-model retail system for liquor and non-medical cannabis, the LDB is committed to providing customers with an enhanced shopping environment, an expansive product selection and a high level of service.

Under the direction of the Trades Supervisor, Technical Security provides the Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) with technical security support, including the Head Office complex, four distribution centres (Burnaby, Kamloops, Delta & Richmond) as well as BC Liquor Stores and BC Cannabis Stores throughout the province.

An eligibility list for temporary future opportunities may be established. A criminal record check is required. A valid BC drivers license is required.

The work requires travel throughout the Province of British Columbia. There may be a requirement to work outside of core hours and on weekends.

The work involves being exposed to dusty conditions 75% of the time, and the lifting of material and equipment, 10-20% of the time.

May be required to lift up to 80 pounds. Will be required to work on ladders at various heights to perform installations.

May be required to travel on short notice.

Education & Experience :

  • Minimum two (2) years related trade person experience in a technical security field combined with successful completion of the Security Alarm Trade Qualification (SATQ)
  • Preference may be given to those candidates with in depth knowledge & experience in working with digital CCTV systems, camera and recording equipment.
  • Preference may be given to those candidates with experience working with electronics and / or those that have an electrical designation.
  • Knowledge :

  • Knowledge of construction building codes, as it relates to the installation and maintenance of trade equipment.
  • Knowledge of current technical security systems, including CCTV analog and digital systems.
  • Knowledge of computer applications relating to security and digital systems and software. Broad knowledge of computer installation, troubleshooting and repair.
  • Knowledge of upload / download computer and software cellular systems.

  • Knowledge of electrical and electronic technology purchasing methods.
  • Working knowledge of the Electrical Code, National Fire Code of Canada, National Building Code, National Canadian Standard for Fire & Security Alarms;
  • Municipal Bylaws and LDB Security Policy and Procedures Manual, Attorney General Security Policy and WCB Occupational Safety Practices.

    Skills & Abilities :

  • Ability to troubleshoot security system faults and correct by computer link-up software programs.
  • Ability to test computer equipment, soft cellular systems and low voltage switching systems; use multi-meter, telephone test set, programmable controllers, testing equipment, cable analysers and power and hand tools.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and creatively plan, organize and coordinate installations.
  • Ability to oversee, direct and evaluate the work of external contractors.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems, and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and to prepare concise factual reports.
