Main purpose of job
The candidate will report to the Ventilation Engineering Director. The mine ventilation Engineer's main job is to ensure a controlled steady supply of fresh and clean air for the underground workers throughout the different mining activities.
The mine ventilation Engineer has to evaluate the different airflow requirements throughout the life of the mine in order to complete a Life of Mine Ventilation Plan (LOMVP).
Using the LOMVP, the mine design and mining method used, the Engineer has to design the ventilation system in the most advantageous economically manner while maintaining a safe working environment.
Using simulation software’s and the theory on fluid dynamics, the mine ventilation Engineer shall size the different fans required to ventilate the working places.
The mine ventilation Engineer is to perform quantity and quality surveys of the mine ventilation network to evaluate if the ventilation is compliant with the regulations in place.
Ventilation performance analysis and mine ventilation designs shall be accomplished through known commercial software and through the Howden proprietary SmartEXEC mine ventilation design, control and optimization tool.
The mine ventilation Engineer shall perform feasibility studies of the implementation of Ventilation-On-Demand (VOD) and ventilation controls optimization systems including data collection, data analysis and report writing.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in mine ventilation as well as the ability to develop and implement standard engineering practices, as well as provide detailed documentation upon project completion.
